TROUSERS-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. l780,091, dated January 17', 1905.
Application iiled` July 16, 1903. Serial No. 165,780.

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. DAHLGEEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 556 Carlton avenue, in the borough of Brooklyn, city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to trousershangers, and has for its object to provide a new and improved device whereby the garments may be suspended in the proper position and in such manner as to maintain the desired symmetry. At the same time the device is one which may be very easily and cheaply constructed and takes up less room than other devices for the same purpose.
In the drawings I have shown a construction embodying my invention, in whichn Figure 1 is a side elevation View, the garment being shown in dotted lines, while Fig. 2 is an end view of the gripping device, partly in section,

Referring' to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a bar which is preferably made of `suitably strong wire having at one end an in-l clined projection 2, intended to be inserted in the trousers at the upper rear portion thereof.
3 designates a gripping device, which may be of any desired form, but is preferably of the spring-clasp construction shown in the drawings, and is capable of being moved hack and forth to hold taut or release the suspended garment. This gripping device is provided with a cylindrical portion 1,whieh has a frictional grip on the rod 1, this frictional grip being' sufficient to stand the ordinary strain'of the stretched garment.

In operation it will be seen that the portion 2 of the device by reason of its inclined surface forms an abutment against which the correspondingly-inelined portion of the garment rests, the gripping' device 3 holding the garment taut against said member 2.
What is claimed as new is 1. A trousers-hanger consisting of a hori- Zontal member having an outiwirdly-inclined portion adapted to be inserted in the upper rear portion of the garment, and a gripping device secured to said horizontal member, and adjustable therealong.
2. Atrousers-hanger comprising a bar having an inclined end for insertion in the upper rear portion of the garment, and a gripping device frictionally secured upon said bar and adjustable therealong'.
3. A trousers-hanger comprising a bar having at one end an inclined portion for insertion in the upper rear portion of the garment, and a gripping device of spring-clasp construction and movable back and forth along the bar to hold taut or release the suspended garment. i
4. A trousers-hanger comprising a bar having at one end an inclined portion for insertion in the upper rear portion of the garment, and a gripping device for cooperating' with said inclined portion to stretch the garment; said gripping device being movable along said bar, and having a cylindrical portion which CHARLES J.
