DANIEL W. DYER AND JAMES H. MCVAUGH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENN- SYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 75,396, dated March 10,1868.
IMPROVED SASlI-BEAD FAS'IENEB..
`TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN:
Be it known that we, DANIEL W. DYER and JAMES H. McVAUGH, of Philadelphia, in the county ofPhladelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Sash-Bead Fastener; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming"r part of this specification.
Figure lis a side view of a window-casing showing the beads secured by our improved fastener.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same, taken through the line xix, tig. 1.k
Figure 3 is a detail-sectional' view of the same, taken through the line yy, iig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved means for removably securing sash-beads to thc easing, which shall be simple in construction, easily attached, and easily operated; and it consists in the catch, constructed as described, in combination with the slotted plates, and with the beads and casin of the window, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the casing, B is the sash-bead, placed in front of the. sasl1,and C is the 'parting-bead, upon the opposite sides of which the sashes move up and down. D is a slotted plate, secured to the window-casing, so as to be flush with the surface of said casing, 'nd halvin't a recess formed beneath it in the casing for the reception of the hooked end of the catch E. F is a slotted plate, secured to the outer edge of the sash-bcad B, so as to be ush with its outer surface, and having a mortise formed beneath it in the said bead, and extending inward to the slotted plate D, as shown in iig. 2. The cato-h E is formed with a rounded shoulder upon one side of its outer end, and a notch upon the other side of said end, whichconstru'etion allows it to be readily passed through the' slot in the plate F, and when the plate and catch are attached to the bead, holds the said catch securely in place, and at the same time allows it to have sutiicient play to he readily operated. Upon the forward end of the catch E is formed a hook or catch-head, which takes hold of the edge of the slot in the plate D, and holds the bead securely in place. In case of the parting-bead C, the outer or projecting end of the catch E should be made low, as shown in fig. 8, so as not to interfere with the sashes as they are moved up and down.
In detaching the beads, the outer end of the catches E are drawn downward, which releases the inner or hooked end of the said catches from the plate D, and allows the beads to be removed from the casing.-
lVe claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent- The catch E, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, in combination with the slotted plates F and D, beads and C, either or both, and casing:r A, as and for the purpose herein set forth.
DANIEL W. DYER, JAMES H. MCVAUGH.
