wanee, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Oorn-Husking Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains' to make and use the same. r

This invention relates to an improvement in corn-husking devices; and it is embodied in the construction and arrangement of parts presently to be described, and defined in the claims.

The invention relates more particularly to that class of husking implements having a hook which is carried by a plate and attached to the hand of the operator by suitable straps; and the object of the inventionis to provide a husking device of that character which will be equipped with a plurality of hooks, so that the husk of the'corn can be engaged at difierent points during the same operation or either of the hooks can be employed, as the occasion may require.

A further object of the invention is to provide a husking device of the character above indicated with provision for adjusting the hooks relative to each other, and, further, to provide an improved arrangement of carrying-plate with the flexible supporting member and straps, so that a single strap can be employed to embrace the thumb and the hand of the operator.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the husking device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hook-carrying plate. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the parts as they appear when adjusted tothe hand, and Fig. 4 is a top plan View.

In the drawings, A represents a securingband, consisting, conveniently, of leather in the form of a Wide strap. This band has a wrist portion B, provided with securing-straps b and buckles b. I desire it understood that below the intermediate strap; but I have foundit convenient and desirable to form the device with thewrist portion. The upper portion of the band is carried upward slightly, as at a, forming a protector for the thumb.

C, having a curved extension 0 at one side and an, opposite curved extension 0 The extensions are properly curved to fit the thumb portion and to embrace on opposite sides the protecting extension a. On the extension O is secured a strap D, and in the extension 0 is a slot 0, through which the strap is passed. This strap D is of sufficient length to extend across the back of the hand, and its end engages the buckles c arranged on the opposite side of the band A. By this means the strap D constitutes the means for securing the husker in proper position relative to the thumb of the operator and also for strapping the upper portion of the husker to the hand.

The plate 0 extends well across the center of the hand and is provided with three separated elongated openings E E E The openings E and E are preferably arranged in line with each other, while the opening E is arranged on the plane intermediate the other openings and slightly below the same. In the opening E is secured a large h'uskinghook F, the shank of the hook extending into the opening and lying against the under face of the plate 0, at which point it is secured in place by a screw e, so that by removing the screw the hook can be readily removed. The book F isof the sizerelatively smaller than that of the hook F, but is secured to the plate .in a manner similar to that of F. In practice I have found it convenient to have hooks of different sizes and to locate them on the plate at different points. Such a construction insures a more complete tearing off of the husk and also permits the use of a large and small book, as the nature, size, or condition of the.

In this connection I have found it convenient to make the hooks of somewhat different shapeas, for instance, the hook F has a long bill lying almost parallel to the plate, while the hook F has a short bill with a sharpened point arranged obliquely relative to the plate. It is to be noticed that when the operator wishes to use but a single hook the others may be very readily removed and also that if but one book is to be employed it can be adjusted to either of the openings.

It is to be understood that while the construction shown and described has proven eminently satisfactory various changes can be made without departing from the nature and principle of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is

1. In a corn-husking device the combination with a band having a wrist-protecting extension and a thumb-protecting extension, of a plate secured on the band having curved portions embracing the thumb extension, a strap secured to one of the plate extensions and passing through the other plate extension, straps secured to the wrist-protector, and fastening means on the opposite edge of the band and protector with which the strap engages, substantially as described.

2. In a corn-husking device the combination with a band having a thumb-protecting extension, of a plate secured on the band having curved portions embracing the thumb extension, a strap secured to one of the plate extensions and passing through the other A WM plate extension, and fastening means on the opposite edge of the band with which the strap engages; substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.

3. In a corn-husking device the combination with a band having a thumb extension, of a plate secured on the band having on its face a plurality of interchangeable hooks of a different type and having curved portions embracing the thumb extension, a strap secured to one of the plate extensions and passing through the other plate extension, and fastening means on the opposite edge of the band with which the strap engages; substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.

4. In a husking device, the combination with a-carrying-plate, having a plurality of slots, of a plurality of hooks adapted to be secured in said slots, the shanks of said hooks being of substantially the same shape and size, whereby the hooks are interchangeable in said slots, and the points of said hooks being of different types, substantially as described.
