oUTSlDE -sASH- SECuRlNG DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 726,192, dated April 21 1903. Application filed June 13, 1902- Serial No. 111,546. (No model.)
To ttZZ w/"wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M..REELY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Missoula, in the county of Missoula and State of Montana, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Outside-Sash-Securing Devices, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention is an improvement in fasteners for securing storm-sashes, screens, 850., over window-openings; and theinvention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a cross-sectional view showing a section of the sash secured in place. Fig. 2 is a similar section showing a fastening-bracket adjusted out of engagement with the blind-stop. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective .view of the fasteningbracket, and Fig. 4 shows a somewhat difierent construction of fastening devices from that shown in Fig. 2.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and efficient sash fastener which will permit the sash to be readily put in place and secured from the inside, thereby dispensing with the necessity of ladders on the outside of the building and also avoiding the marrin g of the window-frame with screws, hooks, or the like, as is now commonly practiced.
The sash-frame A may be that of a screen or of a storm-sash or other form of sash which it may be desired to apply to the outer side of a window-opening and may be of any ordinary or desired construction. The fastening-bracket B, of which I may use any desired number on each side of the sash, may be constructed, as shown in detail in Fig. 3, with a face or main plate B, provided with a slot B elongated in the direction of length of the plate B, a returned spring-wing B at one end of the plate B, an abutting wing B extending from the opposite end of the plate B, at a right anglethereto, and the tongue B of reduced thickness, which extends from the free end of the wing 13 at a right angle thereto, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. When applied as shown in Fig. 1, the main plate B is socured by the screw 0, a washer D being in- .I claim as new, and desire troduced between the head of the screw and theplateB. ThewingB abuts theblind-stop E, and the tongue B of reduced thickness fits between the blind-stop E and the inside "sash F and being thinned down or reduced in thickness does not interfere with the free movement of the inside sash F, as will be readily understood. Manifestly the screw 0 may be tightened up to secure the sash A, and by means of the returned tongue B which will operate as a spring, will serve to take up all Black and prevent the jarring or rattling of the storm-sash.
In Fig. 1 the fastening-bracket is shown in the position in which it secures the storm-sash in place, while in Fig. 2 it is shown released and adjusted inwardly with respect to the outer edge of the storm-sash, so it can be readily applied to or removed from the window-casing. The fastening-bracket may be made of any suitable sheet metal and'can be applied for use in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
While it may be preferred to employ the returned spring-wing B as shown in'Figs. 1, 2, and 3, I mayin some instances employ the construction shown in Fig. 4, wherein the spring-wing B is omitted and the face-plate or main slotted'plate ofthe bracket rests flat againstthe inner side of the sash-frame or as @near to said face as it can be drawn by the action of the screw. V
The construction is simple, inexpensive, easily applied, readily adjusted, and will not mar or otherwise injure the window-frame.
Having thus described my invention, what to secure by Letters Patent, is 1. A sash-fastening bracket having a main plate provided with a longitudinal slot for a screw, and with a wing to abut theedge of the blind-stop and a tongue to overlap the inner face of said stop, substantially as set forth.
2. In a sash-frame fastener, a fasteningbracket composed of sheet metal and having a main plate provided with a longitudinal slot, the returned spring-wing at one end of the main plate, an abutting wing at the other end of the main plate and at a right angle thereto, and the tongue or wing at the free end of the abutting wing and at a right angegementwith the blind-stop and between the gle thereto, substantially as set forth. same and the inside sash substantially as and 3. A fastening-bracket for securing outside for the purpose set forth. sashes and composed of a main plate having 5 an opening for the fastening-screw and pro- Witnesses:
