CARSON F. I-IOWES, OF HUDSON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TICKET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 725,711, dated April 21, 1903.
Application filed July 30, 1902.
To all 1072,0111, [.6 may concern:
Be it known that I, CARSON Fllowns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hudson, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Ticket-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention relates to ticket-holders and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the ticket-holder. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken on'the line 00 a; in Fig. 1.
A is a head or button, of india-rubber or other elastic material, provided with a slit or notch 19 extending crosswise through it for the greater part of its depth. The base of the head A is rounded, so that protuberances c are formed one on each side of the slit 1).
B is a staple which is passed through the head A at the bottom of the slit 1). The staple is inserted in the seat of a railroad-carriage, and when driven in tightly it springs the edges 01": the slit toward each other, so that they grip a ticket when the same is thrust into the slit.
C is a base-washer provided with protuberances d, which come under the protuberances Serial No. 117,708. (No model.)
0. The base-washer may be omitted altogether, if desired, or its protuberances 01 may be omitted, or the protuberances c on the head A may be omitted when the washer is provided with protuberances.
What I claim is- 1. In a ticket-holder, the combination, with a head of elastic material having a slit in it, of a staple inserted through the said head at the bottom of its said slit, substantially as set forth. 2. In a ticket-holder, the combination, with a head of elastic material having a slit in it, of a staple inserted through the said head at the bottom of its said slit, and protuberances under the head one on each side of its slit for contracting the slit when the staple is driven into a support, substantially as set forth.
3. In a ticket-holder, the combination, with a head of elastic material having a slit in it, of a staple inserted through the said head at the bottom of the slit, abase-washer, and protuberances between the said head and washer on each side of the said slit, said slit being contracted when the staple is driven into a support, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARSON F. HOWES.
