LATHE-DOG.
SIEEGFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,810, dated March 12, 1901. Application filed Ootobar 30, 1900. VSerial No. 34,930. (No model.)

Be it known that I, PHILIP SCHWICKART, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the cityot' New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of NewYork, have invented a new and Improved Lathe- Dog, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description. i
The object of the invention is to providea new and improved lathe-dog which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to properly engage the work and to permit of convenient and quick adjustment to work of different diameters.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The lathe-dog has its body A formed with members A A2, standing at an angle to one another to receive and center a shaft B or other work on which the dog is to be applied. The top of the shaft B is adapted to be engaged by a clamping-block C, pivoted at D in a slot in a clamping-bar E, formed at one end with an integral pivot E, engaging one of a series of recesses'As, formed in the face of "the extension A4, integral with the member A2 of the body Al The free end of the clamping-bar E is pivotally connected with an adjusting-bolt F, engaging an outwardlyextending ilange A6 integral with thel upper end of the member A'. By adjusting the nut F' on the boltF the bar E is swung downward, so as to bring the lower side of the clampingblock Cin rm contact with the shaft or work B, and thereby securely fasten the dog to the work. From the extension A4 extends the usual pin A5 for engagement with the faceplate on the lathe, so that when the latter is set in motion the dog is carried around and turns the shaft or work B in the usual manner. i
The sides of the clamping-block C are concave andare arranged a different distance from the center of the pivot D, so that upon turning the said clamping-block work having different diameters can be engaged with out changing the fulcrum of the clampingbar E from one recess A3 to another. As shown, the clamping-block O has four such concave sides to allow of engaging work having four essentially-different diameters, it being understood that for work having a certain diameter the block C is turned on its pivot D until the desired side is below the inner edge of the clamping-bar E to engage the work on n the top thereof opposite the members A A2.
By having two recesses A3 located one above the other it is evident that eight different adjustments can be made, thus allowing the use of the lathe-dog for work having different diameters. By having the rear walls A7 of the `recesses A8 integral with the extension A4 the latter is greatly strengthened or reinforced, and at the same time the tiXed pivot E of the clamping-bar E i's not liable to accidentally slip out of the recess in a lateral direction.
Having 'thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A lathe-dog, comprising a body having V-shaped members, an extension on one of the said members and formed with a plurality of recesses located one above the other, a clamping-bar having its fulcrum in one of the said recesses, an adjustable bolt pivoted on the free end of the clamping-bar and engaging a iiange on the other body member, and a clamping-block pivoted on the said clamping-bar between the f ulcrum thereof and the said bolt, said clampingblock having con cave sides located at different distances from the pivot of the block, as set forth.
