UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE."
H. W. WILGOX, 0Fv ooLUMBus, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED FOLDING BUCKET.
Specifieationforming part of Letters Patent lie-46,168, dated January 31, 1865.
To all whom it'may concern;
' accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention in an open state; Fig. 2, a side view of the same; Fig.3,asidev1ew-ot the same in nearly a folded or closed state Fig. 4, a section of a portion of the same, taken in the line 'a; at, Fig. 2. p Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The object of this invention is toobtain a pail or bucket which, when not in use, may be compactly folded soas not to monopolize much space and still be strong and durable, and capable of being readily expanded when required for use. The invent-ion is more especially designed .for teamsters, army purposes, &c., where economy in space is an object, and where the water pails or buckets are carried along in the wagons.
The body of the bucket is constructed of. indie-rubber or any other suitable water-proof cloth, A, which will be sutficie'ntly flexible to foid easily.
The bucket is provided with a rim of wood or metahcom'posed of four parts, B,c0nnected together byflinks a, formed of metal rods with their ends bent and fitted in eyesb, at
the ends of the parts B, and the cloth A is composed of four equal parts, 3, the upper ends of which are secured to the parts B of the rim, and the sides of said parts sewed together.
In consequence of having the rim of the bucket-composed of separate parts B, connected togetherby .links a, as shown and described, said ri m' may be expanded so as to form a square, as shown in Fig. 1, and it also may be folded compactly together. The body A, being composed of cloth or other flexible material, will'of course admit of this adjustment of the. rim.
0 represents thehaudle ofthepailorbucket, which is composed of three metal rods, d d 01, connected together by link or hook joints, 0, the central rod being provided with a wooden hand-piece, D.
The ends of the outer rods,d d,--are connected by link or hook joints f to two opposite joints, a, of the rim of the pail or bucket. By this arrangement the handle 0 is rendered capable of being folded compactly with the other parts of the bucket. H
I'claim asnew, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, as an improved article of manut'acture-- A folding pail or bucket composed of a rim constructed of a number of parts, 8, connectedtogether by joints and having a flexible waterproof substance attaehed to them to form the body of the pail or bucket, and the rim having a jointed handle, 0, attached, all constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
H. W. WILCOX.
