UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC EMILY O. MASON, OF NEW YORK, N.
WINDOW CLOTH ES-LINE SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 457,360, dated August -11, 1891.
Application filed May 2, 1890. Serial No 350.4:04- (N model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMILY O. MASON, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in lVindow Clothes-Line Supports.
The object of my invention is to provide means forhanging out from a window for the purpose of drying articles of clothing which have been washed. or for the purpose of airing clothing for the convenience of those living above the ground-floor.
The construction and operation of my invention is more fully shown and described in the following specificationand accompanying drawings. Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a view of the device attached to a window-frame. Fig. 2 is adetail view of the extensible frame, and Fig. 3 is a detail View of the extensible pole b.
The extensible frame a is made in two parts in such a manner that it may be expanded or contracted to fit window-frames of diiferent widths.
The method of securing together the two parts of frame a is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, where the ends of one part are slotted and overlap the ends of the other part. Set-screws C pass through said slots in one part and are threaded into the other part, clamping them together firmly after their adjustment to a window-frame.
The extensible pole b is made in sections held together by sleeves, as shown in Fig. 3, one end of said pole having an eye (I for a purpose hereinafter to be described. Upon the opposite end of pole b is a bar 6, at right angles thereto, the ends of said bar 6 being provided with hooks f, hereinafter referred to.
In use the extensible frame a, is fitted to the window-frame, and clamped in position by set-screws C. The eye (1 upon one end of the extensible pole b is placed upon the lower set-screw O, the pole extending outwardly, as
shown in Fig. 1. Pulley-blocks h h are connected to hooks ff upon the ends of bar e. Similar pulley-blocks 1' 'i are connected to hooks g g on extensible frame a.
In order to support the extensible pole bin its proper position, endless lines J J, of a suitable length, are placed upon grooved sheaves i h. It will be seen that the endless lines J J can be moved upon their supporting-blocks i h.
Upon the lines J J and within reach of the window frame are placed the articles to be dried or aired, and if there are a number of such articles the lines J J may be moved, carrying the articles first placed upon them outwardly from the window, thus allowing additional articles to be placed upon said lines. It will be seen that by this arrangement clothes-lines of sufficient length to carry a considerable number of articles are provided and that anyportion of said lines J J can be brought within convenient reach of the window for attaching or detaching clothes to be dried or aired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A window clothes line support. constructed substantially as herein shown and described and consisting of an extensible frame (I, provided With hooks g g, and the extensible pole I), having formed upon one end the eye d and line-attaching devices at the other, as set forth.
2. In a window clothes-line support, the combination ofan extensible frame a, provided with supporting-hooks g g, pulleyblocks 1' 'i, and the extensible pole b, connected. to the frame a and having upon its outer end bar e, provided with hooks f f, and pulleyblocks h h, as set forth.
3. In a window clothes-line support, the extensible frame a, provided with supportinghooks g g, pulley-blocks i i, the extensible pole I), having upon its outer end bar e, provided with hooks f f, and pulley-blocks h h, in combination with endless lines J J, as described and set forth.
