Abstract

A method and apparatus for positioning and bonding a liner in a casing in a well bore wherein a pack off bushing is provided between the liner and the well string on which the liner is lowered into the well bore for discharge of a bonding agent through the well string and around the liner in the well bore. The seal or pack off bushing is constructed and arranged so that it may be retrieved after the positioning and bonding operations are completed along with the well string upon which the liner is initially lowered into the well bore.

Claims (6)

1. A METHOD OF POSITIONING A LINER ON A WELL STRING IN A WELL BORE COMPRISING THE STEPS OF: A. SECURING THE LINER ON THE WELL STRING; B. LOCKING A SEAL BUSHING IN POSITION BETWEEN THE LINER AND THE WELL STRING TO SEAL OFF THEREBETWEEN; C. LOWERING THE WELL STRING AND LINER TO A DESIRED POSITION IN THE WELL BORE; D. ROTATING THE WELL STRING RELATIVE TO THE LINER TO DISENGAGE THE LINER FROM THE WELL STRING:

A method of positioning a liner on a well string in a well bore comprising the steps of: a. securing the liner on the well string; b. locking a seal bushing in position between the liner and the well string to seal off therebetween; c. lowering the well string and liner to a desired position in the well bore; d. rotating the well string relative to the liner to disengage the liner from the well string; e. discharing a bonding agent from the well string and into the well bore around the liner; and f. thereafter withdrawing the well string longitudinally of the liner to unlock the seal bushing, and g. retrieving the well string and seal bushing from the well bore.
3. A method of sealing between a liner and well string during bonding operations in a well bore and thereafter retrieving the seal from the well bore comprising the steps of: a. locking a seal bushing in position between the well string and liner to seal off therebetween; b. lowering the well string and liner into the well bore; c. disengaging the well string from the liner by relative rotation therebetween while maintaining the seal locked in position therebetween; d. discharging a bonding agent through the well string and into the well bore around the liner to bond it in the well bore; and e. thereafter moving the well string longitudinally of the liner to unlock the seal bushing and retrieve it along the well string from the well bore.
4. A method of sealing between a liner and well string during bonding operations in a well bore and thereafter retrieving the seal from the well bore comprising the steps of: a. locking a seal bushing in position between the well string and liner to seal off therebetween; b. lowering the well string and liner into the well bore; c. disengaging the well string from the liner by relative rotation therebetween while maintaining the seal locked in position therebetween; d. discharging a bonding agent through the well string and into the well bore around the liner to bond it in the well bore; and e. thereafter moving the well string longitudinally of the liner to engage and unlock the seal bushing and retrieve it along with the well string from the well bore.
5. A method of positioning a liner with a hanger thereon in a well bore casing comprising the steps of: a. securing the liner with the hanger thereon on a tubular member whereby the liner and tubular member may be disconnected from each other upon relative rotation therebetween; b. locking a seal bushing in position between the tubular member and liner to seal off therebetween; c. lowering the tubUlar member, liner and hanger thereon in the well bore to a desired position; d. expanding the hanger into locking engagement with the well bore casing to support the liner thereon; e. disengaging the tubular member from the liner by relative rotation therebetween while maintaining the seal locked in position therebetween; f. discharging a bonding agent through the tubular member and into the well bore around the liner; and g. thereafter moving the tubular member longitudinally of the liner to unlock the seal bushing and retrieve it along with the tubular member from the well bore.
6. A method of positioning a liner with a hanger thereon in a well bore casing comprising the steps of: a. securing the liner with the hanger thereon on a tubular member whereby the liner and tubular member may be disconnected from each other upon relative rotation therebetween; b. locking a seal bushing in position between the tubular member and liner to seal off therebetween; c. lowering the tubular member, liner and hanger thereon in the well bore to a desired position; d. expanding the hanger into locking engagement with the well bore casing to support the liner thereon; e. disengaging the tubular member from the liner by relative rotation therebetween while maintaining the seal locked in position therebetween; f. discharging a bonding agent through the tubular member and into the well bore around the liner; and g. thereafter moving the tubular member longitudinally of the liner to engage and unlock the seal bushing and retrieve it along with the tubular member from the well bore.
