WASH-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 374,822, dated December 13, 1887.
Application filed August 17, 1886. Serial No. 211,132. (No model.) i
To @ZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. BRAUN- EELD, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residingin the city and county of Philadelphia, State oi'Pennsylvania, haveinventedanew and useful Improvement iu Vash Stands, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 represents a front View of a Washstand embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a partial side elevation and partial vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 represents a top view of ya detached portion thereof. Fig. 4 represents a vertical section of va portion at a right angle to Fig. 2. Fig. 5 represents a horizontal section in line x x, Fig- 4.

My invention consists of improvements in wash stands embodying a metallic basin, a commode-chamber, and other features, as will behereinafter fully set forth.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body or frame of a Wash-stand, formed of Wood or other suitable material, and supporting a bracket, B, and urn or water-holder C, the latter having a faucet, D, for directing water into the basin E, the back boardor piece, F, of the urn having pivoted to it the towel-holders G. The basin E is formed of metal with a rim, H, which rests on the body A and sustains the basin and formsthe top of the wash-stand.
Depending from the basin E is a dischargespout, J, which passes through an opening in the horizontal partition` K in the bottom of the basin-chamber, so as to direct the contents of the basin into the commode or slop bucket L, which occupies a box or body, M, in the Wash-stand below the basin-chamber, it being noticed that the lid or cover N of the bucket L has an opening, N', registering with the spout J, so as to permit the contents of the basin to enter said bucket L.
The box M is supported on rollers or wheels, and may be drawn out from the Washstand, as seen in Figs. 3 and 5, and dotted lines, Fig. 2.
The lid N of the commode-bucket L rests on the commode-seat P, which, as will be seen, is at the top of the box M, and is removable therefrom. v
In order to prevent lateral motions of the commodebox M when withdrawn or returned, the sides of said box are formed With slats or bars Q, which alternate Withslats or bars Q', secured to said box, (see Fig. 4,) the bars Q sliding between the bars Q when the box is moved, and thereby guiding the box. The box is also provided with stops R, secured to the rear of the same and abutting against the front of the stand for limiting the outwardv motion of the box.
It will be seen that the basin may be ernployedfor washing purposes, and the Water therein discharged into the bucket L through the spout J and opening N' of the lid N. Vhen service of the commode is required, the box M is Withdrawn and the seat P may be occupied, the lid N being previously displaced. In this condition the commode rests on the floor, and overturning of the same and the Wash-stand is thereby prevented.
Vhen removal of the bucket is required, the seat P is disengaged from the box, thus exposing the bucket and permitting it to be lifted from the box. When the bucket is re placed, the seat and lid are returned, and the box, With its contents, may be returned to its normal position, the commode, as such, thus being concealed and the general appearance of the Wash-stand preserved.
The basin and its rim and spout are made of one piece of cast metal, and may be readily applied to the body of the Wash-stand and removed therefrom. It may be enameled and readily cleaned and dried. The under side of the rim has tongues S, which enter grooves in the top of the body A, for preventing lateral shifting of the basin.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters.
1. In a combined Wash-stand and commode, the casing A, havingthe inner partition, K, with opening in the same, the basin E, having rim H', with tongue S, and outlet-pipe J,
the said basin, rim, tongue, and pipe being being integral, in .combination with a casing of a single piece of cast metal, all of said parts with a. vgroove for said tongue, all substantially being,r combined substantially as and for the as described.
purpose set forth. HENRY E. BRAUN FELD. 2. In a combined wash-stand and commode, Witnesses:
a bowl having a 1'in1 with tongue and an outi JOHN A. WIEDERSHEIM,
let-pipe, the said bowl, rim, tongue, and pipe A. P. GRANT.
