HOUSE NUMBER RECEPTACLE Filed June 1'7. 1968 ADRlbl O. ESPINOSA United States Patent US. Cl. 40-431 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A receptacle is provided with a removable translucent front face on which house numbers are mounted. The rear face is apertured and a collar is crimped into said aperture by which collar the receptacle may be mounted on a conventional outdoor wall bracket.
My invention relates to illuminated signs and is more particularly directed to an illuminated house number wall bracket.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a house number receptacle which is readily mounted on the conventional outdoor wall bracket.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a house number receptacle with a transluscent face portion that is slidably mounted thereon and on whose surface the house address is afiixed.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an illuminated house number receptacle that is simple in construction, inexpensive in cost and one which can be readily secured in position on the conventional outdoor wall bracket.
With these and other objects in View, the invention will best be understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a house number receptacle constructed in accordance with my invention.
FIG. 2 is a transverse or vertical cross sectional View thereof showing the conventional wall bracket in dotted lines.
FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of FIG. 2 with the conventional wall bracket Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals are omitted therefrom.
Referring to the drawing wherein ilke numerals are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views, the numeral refers to my house number wall receptacle consisting of a housing made of sheet metal bent along the edges of a rear wall 11 as at 12 to form the top wall 13, at the sides as at 14 to form the side walls 15, and 16 and at the bottom edge 17 to form a foreshortened bottom wall 18. The front edges of the top and bottom walls 13 and 18 are bent to form flanges 19 and 20 that extend in a direction toward each other. Side walls and 16 are bent at their front edge portions to form flanges 21 and 22 respectively, extending in a Patented June 23, 1970 direction toward each other. However, the side wall 16 is foreshortened so that a space exists between the side flange 22 and the upper and lower flanges 19 and 20 while side flange 21 is in coplanar arrangement with the flanges 19 and 20.
Fastened to the inner surface of the top and bottom walls 13 and 18 adjacent the forward edge thereof is an L-shaped member 23 having an upright portion 24 positioned in spaced relation with the flanges 19 and 20 to form a slot 24 for sildably receiving a plexiglass plate or other translucent member 25 which covers the front of the receptacle 10. Cemented to the plate 25 are opaque numerals 26 which form the address of the residence upon which my receptacle 10 is mounted. To secure the address carrying plate 25 on the receptacle, an L-shaped member having leg portions 27 and 28 is fastened as by screws 29 extending through the leg portion 27 to the side wall 16 while the leg portion 28 engages the plate member 25.
The bottom wall 18 is slotted as at 29 to form a heat venting opening. The opening 29 is covered by a framed screen member 30 that is fastened to the bottom wall 18. The rear wall 11 is provided also with an opening 31 which in this instance is circular in shape to receive a collar member 32 having the same diameter as the opening 31. The outer edge of the tubular member 32 is folded outwardly on itself to form a shoulder 33 while the inner edge is slit about its periphery as at 34 forming two sets of tabs 35 and 36 when the ends thereof have been bent. The tabs 35 are spaced from the tabs 36 and are crimped tightly against the edges of the rear wall 11 at the opening 31.
As best shown by FIG. 2, after the proper numerals 26 have been aifixed to the plexiglass plate 25, the receptacle 10 is mounted on a conventional outdoor electrical bracket B shown by dotted lines. The tubular member 32 is lucent plate 25 will permit light to pass therethrough inwardly until they engage the shoulder 33 to secure the receptacle 10 in place. When the bulb 38 is lit, the translucent plate 25 will permit light to pass therethrough while the opaque numerals 26 will stand out and be visible from a distance.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A house number receptacle comprising a housing having a top wall, a bottom wall, a rear wall and side walls forming an open front wall, front edge portions of said top and bottom wall and one of said side walls bent to form coplanar flange portions, a front edge portion of the other of said side walls bent to form a further flange portion in spaced relation to said coplanar flange portions, L-shaped members secured to the inner surfaces of said bottom and top walls in alignment with said further flange portion to form a slotted portion slidably receiving a plate member, fastening means securing said plate member in said slotted portion, said rear wall having a substantially circular opening, a collar of substantially the same diameter as said opening having one edge folded outwardly upon itself to form a shoulder, the other edge being slotted about its periphery to form two sets of tabs, said tabs of each set being coplanar, one set of said tabs engaging the inner surface of said rear wall at said opening and said other set of tabs engaging the outer surface of said rear wall.
