Description

y 1965 M. CHEVILLON I 3,182,393
PROTECTIVE COVERING Filed June 14, 1962 INVENTOR. MANUEL CHEVILLON United States Patent 3,182,393 PROTECTIVE COVERING Manuel Chevillon, 14506 Fairacres Road, Silver Spring, Md. Filed June 14, 1962, Ser. No. 202,433 1 Claim. (Cl. 29-428) This invention relates to a sanitary covering.
Beverages are currently sold in cans and it is convenient to drink directly from the can after punching a hole therein. However, it is difiicult to properly sanitize a can after handling by various people and placing in places where dust or brine may deposit on the can. Also even if sanitized the taste of the metal surfaces of the can may be disagreeable.
Accordingly the features of novelty are defined with novel means and method for permitting sanitary drinking directly from a can.
There is provided in accordance with the invention a protective napkin which conforms in position about the rim of the can so that a person can drink from the can without touching his lips to the can surface.
The invention may be visualized by reference to the drawing wherein the beverage can 1 has overlaid about the rim and extending across the top and down the side a napkin 3. This napkin 3 is placed over the can before a hole 2 is punched through both the can and napkin simultaneously, whereby one may drink from the can without touching his lips on the surfaces of the can.
The napkin 3 is either a simple flat paper napkin which can be folded manually to conform to the can surface,
"ice
or a preshaped plastic form matching the contour of the outer surface of the can. The paper napkin if of a moisture absorbent variety thereby adheres closely to a moist can by capillary action. This is convenient since a chilled can tends to sweat enough to form a moisture film.
From the foregoing description it may be recognized that the invention provides improved means and method for sanitary protection of a can when drinking directly therefrom.
Accordingly the features of novelty are defined with particularity in the following claim.
I claim:
The method of sanitization of a beverage can providing the steps of placing a napkin on the can to extend over the rim and a section of the side and top surface, and punching a hole through the can and napkin simultaneously to permit drinking from the hole.
