UNITED STATES PATENT D FICE.
THOMAS HENRY HARPER, OF REDDITOH, COUNTY OF \VORCESTER, ENGLAND.
NEEDLE-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,715,6ated December 23, 1884.
Application filed January 24, 1884. (No model.) I
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS HENRY HAR- PER, of RedditchfiVorcester county, England, have invented a new and Improved Needle- Oabinet, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Myinvention relates to certain new and use- I ful improvements in the needle-cabinet for which United States Letters Patent No. 263,902 were issued to me on the 5th day of September, 1882,- and the invention has for its object to prevent withdrawing the slides entirely from the compartments.
The invention consists in a needle-cabinet divided into compartment-s on the bottom of each of which a slide is held, which slide is provided with a longitudinal recess or groove having a longitudinal slot in its bottom, through. which slot a pin or screw is passed into the bottom of the compartment.
Reference isto be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved needle'cabinet, parts being broken out. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the line as r, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view on the line i 3 Fig. 2, parts being broken out. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the slide, and Fig. 5 is a plan View of the same.
The cabinet A is divided by vertical partitions B into a series of compartments, 0, open at the front, all of which compartments can be closed by a hinged or sliding door, D.
On the bottom of each compartment 0 a slide, E, rests, which is provided at its outer end with a tongue, E,which projects through a slot formed in the front of the case between the bottoms of the compartments and the bot- 0 tom edge of the door D. Each slide E is provided with a longitudinal recess or groove, F, in the bottom of which a longitudinal slot,G, is formed, through which slot a headed stud or screw, H, is passed into the bottom of the compartment at the front part of the same, thus permitting the slide to move longitudinally on the bottom of the compartment and preventing the slide from being entirely withdrawn or removed from the compartment. At its rear part each slide is provided with a projection, J, beveled from the rear end of the recess F toward the rear end of the slide. The packages K, containing the needles, are placed on the slides E, as shown, and if a slide-is drawn out the lowest needle-package, K, is drawn out with it. The package is removed and the slide is pushed back. The cabinet can be used for spool-cotton, braids, &c. The head of the stud or screw is within the groove or recess F, which prevents the said head from coming in contact with the bottom needlepackage and catching in the same.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A needlecabinet provided with compartments fitted with slides E, each having longitudinal grooves-or recesses F, the bottom of which is provided with a longitudinal slot, G, through which a headed stud or screw passes, projecting upward from the bottom of the compartment to prevent the accidental Withdrawal of the slide from the cabinet, substantially as herein shown and described.
THOMAS HENRY HARPER. Vitnesses:
HENRY PARR, ALBERT HENRY PARR.
