2 Claims. (Cl. 217-3) My invention relates to pocket forming lining attachments for dresser drawers and the like.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a lining attachment for such a drawer attachable to the side and end walls of the drawer and comprising a plurality of upwardly opening side-by-side pockets for containing small articles and which are pleated to expand in limited degree to receive articles therein and to collapse into substantially ilat position when not in use.

Another object is to provide a lining for the above purposes which is made solely of two strips of flexible material sewed together, with bound edges, to form a strong article of simple, inexpensive construction.

Other and subordinate objects, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will become readily apparent when the following description and appended claims are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, the pocket forming lining of my invention comprises a lining strip 1 of any suitable iiexible material, such as plastic or fabric,

and which is preferably narrower than the depth of the dresser drawer 3 to t in upright position therein clear of the top of the drawer, and is of a length to extend endwise along any desired portion of the vertical walls of the drawer, for instance, and as shown for illustrative purposes, along the inside of the front wall 5 and one end wall 7.

The lining strip 1 has its longitudinal top edge and its end edges bound by a ribbon 9 of any suitable iiexible material folded over said edges and stitched thereto, as at 11, so as to obviate raw top and end edges on said lining strip and to reinforce `said edges. For the same purpose, the bottom edge of the lining strip 1 is folded back upon itself and stitched along said edge, as at 13, to provide a bottom hem 15.

A facing strip 17 of plastic or fabric is provided on the front of the lining strip 1 to extend endwise along the same. The facing strip 17 has its top edge bound 'by a ribbon 19 and stitching 21 and its bottom edge folded back and stitched as at 23 to form a bottom hem 25, all as in the case of the lining strip 1 and for the same purpose. Preferably, the facing strip 17 is slightly shorter and narrower than the lining strip 1 and attached, as presently described, to said lining strip 1 with its bottom edge substantially ush with the bottom edge of the lining strip and its ends spaced from the ends of said lining strip to provide exposed top and end attaching portions 27, 29 on said lining strip 1.

The facing strip 17 is attached to the lining strip 1 by longitudinal stitches 31 stitching the bottom hems 13, 25 together, and by equidistantly spaced lines of transverse stitches 33 at its ends and intermediate said ends so that said facing strip 17 forms with the lining strip 1 side-byside vertical pockets 35, the tops of which are open and spaced below the top edge of the lining strip 1.

Transverse vertical pleats 37 are formed in the facing strip 17 midway between the transverse lines of stitches 33 and which extend from top to bottom of the pockets 35 and are stitched together at the bottom edge of said facing strip 17, or bottom of the pockets 35, by the longitudinal stitches 31, said pleats forming loose reverse folds above the bottom of the pockets 35 and in the vertical center of said pockets. Thus, the pleats 37, or folds, provide for expansion of the pockets in limited degree, as shown in broken lines in Figure 3, to facilitate entering and holding of articles in said pockets.

The described pocket forming lining may be attached to the front and end wall 5, 7, by thumbtacks 39 spaced along the attaching portions 27, 29, and at the desired height on said walls to hang said lining strip thereon.

As will be seen, the pocket forming lining of my invention provides for storing articles separately in a drawer in readily available position, which obviates hunting for and removing articles from under clothing and the like, and provides for confining selected articles in the drawer so as to prevent the same from Wrinkling or otherwise injuring fine fabrics, and becoming entangled therewith.

The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention, without further explanation.

Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A pocket forming lining for attachment in a drawer to a vertical wall thereof comprising a lining strip of flexible material having top, bottom and end edges, and adapted to extend endwise along said wall, and be attached thereto in upright position, and a facing strip of exible material having top, bottom and end edges, longitudinal stitches securing the bottom edges of said strips together, and equidistantly spaced transverse lines of stitches securing said facing strip at its end edges and intermediate the same to said lining strip to form therewith side-by-side vertical pockets open at the tops thereof, said facing strip being pleated transversely midway between said transverse lines of stitching with the pleats stitched together at the 'bottoms of the pockets and forming loose reverse folds above said bottoms to provide for limited expansion of said pockets, Asaid top and end edges of said strips having bindings attached thereto to reinforce the same.

2. A pocket forming lining according to claim 1, the top and end edges of the facing strip being spaced from the top and end edges of the lining strip to provide top and end attaching portions on said lining strip.
