DISPENSER FOR POWDERED MATERIALS Filed May 19, 1955 2 7 r INVENTORY w WILLIAMH. HANDEL, JR.
Y B? F -3- WJ A TTORNE Y United This invention relates to a dispenser and more particularly to a dispenser from which a measured amount of a powdered material may be conveniently withdrawn.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a dispenser for powdered materials.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a dispenser for powdered materials which will retain said powered materials in moisture-tight storage and dispense a measured quantity of the same upon actuation.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a dispenser for powdered materials incorporating a receiving cup in the form of a drawer movable into and out of the bottom portion of the dispenser and acting to receive a measured quantity of material in the dispenser upon such action.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a powdered material dispenser which may be molded of synthetic resins and the like and comprising a relatively few parts capable of simple assembly.
The dispenser for powdered materials disclosed herein is intended for everyday use in dispensing powdered soaps, detergents, etc., but may be used for dispensing various other powdered or granular materials and the like.
The particular point of novelty in the disclosure is the provision of a receiving cup removably engaged in a portion of the dispenser and into which receiving cup a measured amount of the material in the dispenser will be automatically deposited each time the receiving cup is positioned in the dispenser and removed therefrom.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the function and scope of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the dispenser.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detailed perspective view of a portion of the dispenser with parts broken away.
Figure 3 is a side View of the lower portion of the dispenser with parts broken away and parts in cross section and illustrating the material receiving cup in engaged and withdrawn positions.
By referring to the drawings and Figure 1 in particular, it will be seen that the dispenser comprises a casing 10 having a bottom 11 and a removable top 12. A front wall 13 of the casing 10 has an opening 14 adjacent the bottom 11 and a removable receiving cup 15 is engaged in said opening. A handle 16 on the receiving cup 15 extends forwardly of the front wall 13 of the casing 10.
By referring now to Figure 2 of the drawings, it will be observed that the casing 10 has a false bottom 17 supported therein and shaped to incline toward a lower centates Patent tral point and having an opening 18 at said lower central point. The opening 18 is relatively longer than its width and disposed transversely of the false bottom 17 and is normally closed by a longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19.
The ends of the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 extend beyond the side portions of the false bottom 17 and are provided with axial extensions 20 journaled in bearing blocks 21 which in turn are mounted for verticalmovement between opposed notched guides 22- 22. The guides 2222 are supported on bosses 2323 and springs 24 are positioned between the upper surface of the bosses 2323 and the bearing blocks 21 so that the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 will be urged upwardly against the opening 18 along the oppositely disposed spaced parallel edges of the opening 18 and the arcuate shaped ends 18A of the opening 18.
The end portions of the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 are provided with gear teeth 2525 formed therein throughout a portion of their circumference and the sides of the cup 15 are provided with matching gear teeth 26 to engage the gear teeth 2525 and thereby rotate the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 when the cup 15 is moved in and out of the dispenser through the opening 14.
It will be observed that the outer sides of the cup 15 are parallel and that they are provided with longitudinally extending grooves 27 "which register on longitudinally extending ribs 28 formed one on each of bosses 23, 23 and thereby support the cup 15 in slidable relation with respect thereto.
It will thus be seen that when the top 12 of the dis penser is opened and the same filled with the material to be dispensed, the material will rest on the sloping surfaces of the false bottom 17 and be guided thereby to the lower centrally located opening 18 against which the iongitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 is engaged.
At such time as the cup 15 is in position in the dispenser, as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, and in broken lines in Figure 3 of the drawings, the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 will be rotated to a non-registering position with respect to the opening 18 and to a position where the longitudinal slot 19A in the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 will permit the contents of the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 to drop into the cup 15.
When the cup 15 is withdrawn from the dispenser, the longitudinally sloted cylindrical member 19 will be revolved thereby to bring the slot 19A therein into registry with the opening 18 and permit the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 to be filled with the material in the dispenser. Replacing the cup 15 in the dispenser will again revolve the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 and close the opening 18 and deposit the contents of the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 in the cup and thus repeat the cycle.
It will occur to those skilled in the art that the gear teeth 25 on the ends of the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 are limited to a portion of the circumference thereof so that accurate registry and non-registry of the slot in the longitudinally slotted cylindrical member 19 and the opening 18 is assured.
It will thus be seen that a simple and eflicient dispenser for powdered materials has been disclosed and that the device meets the several objects of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
