Application January 11, 1955, Seriat No 431,191
1 Claims (Cl. 312-211) My invention relates to a garbage disposal especially designed and constructed for domestic use in the kitchen for removably maintaining disposal bags in open condition to receive and contain the garbage or the like pending removal of the garbage container bags.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a container of the class hereinafter described which will be relatively simple and sanitary in construction, economical in manufacture, and highly efficient in use.
Another equally important object of the invention is to provide a garbage disposal container having at least two main compartments within which bags maintained in open condition are removably positioned to receive garbage or other refuse.
Yet a further object of the invention is to provide with such container, storage compartments in which may be stored the bags in which the garbage is to be disposed when the bags are arranged in the compartments in open condition.
A still further object of the invention is to provide in a garbage disposal a simple arrangement for holding the garbage disposal bags open for instant use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form :of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention as viewed from the reverse side as shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional detail view taken substantially on line 44 of Fig. 3.
As hereinbefore indicated, an object of this invention. is to provide a container having two compartments within which bags are arranged in open condition for instant use, which container in addition to such compartments is provided with storage compartments within which the bags are stored pending their individual use.
To accomplish this and the other objects of the invention, I provide a container preferably formed of such material as will best serve the purpose. This container includes a rear wall 11, a bottom wall 12, side walls 13, and a front wall 14. The top of the container is open and is normally closed by a suitable cover 15. This cover is hinged to the rear wall by a suitable hinge 16.
The container by :a partition 17 is divided into adjacent compartments 18 and 19, preferably of equal dimensions, and each adapted to receive therein a removable bag into which the garbage or other material is deposited. The bag in one of the compartments, such as for example compartment 18, may be used to receive the usual garbage, while the bag contained in the compartment 19 may be used to receive discarded cans or the like, thus separating the cans from the garbage as is required at many places. The bags 20 are maintained in open condition for instant use. To accomplish this, I provide metal clips 21 opening in a downward direction as shown in Fig. 3 to facilitate quick insertion of the edge 22 of the bag beneath the clips.
Patented June 18, 1957 As a part of the container 10 and extending from the back Wall 11 are open pockets 23 in which are stored the bags 20 pending their individual use. These pockets 23 are provided by a wall 27 spaced from the wall 11 and joining the side walls 13. A suitable partition 24 separates the bags 20.
When each of the bags in the compartments 18 and 19 are filled, they are removed from the container 10 and transferred to the outside garbage or rubbish container. Upon removal of the filled bags, new bags may be arranged in the compartments 18 and 19 and as before stated, held in open condition for instant use by projecting the open edge portions 22 thereof beneath the clips 21.
Garbage disposal, by the use of my improved garbage disposal, is accomplished in a sanitary manner, the garbage bags not only serving as a convenient conveyance of the collected garbage, but also protecting the container from coming into contact with the garbage, thus preserving its life and its usefulness.
Pending the removal of the bags from the compartments 18 and 19, the garbage is hidden from view by the cover 15, which cover remains in closed position until such time as it is desired to dispose garbage into the bags and until such time as the bags have been filled and are ready for removal.
To facilitate the placing and removing of the bags 20 in the pockets 23, opposite side walls 13 at the upper end portions thereof are tapered downwardly as at 25 and merge into the top edge 26 of the outer wall 27 of the pockets, thus placing the top edge 26 of the wall 27 below the top edge of the rear wall 11.
To facilitate moving the container about there are provided on the side walls suitable handles 28.
It will be apparent that there is on hand at all times a supply of bags, which as before stated, may be placed in the compartments with a minimum degree of labor.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A garbage disposal comprising a container providing adjacent compartments in each of which is adapted to be arranged a disposal bag in open condition for instant use, means for removably maintaining the bags in said compartments in said open condition, and storage pockets exterior of the container on one wall thereof with said storage pockets being substantially equal in width to said compartments and said bags, within which storage pockets bags are adapted to be stored pending individual use in said compartments, said bag maintaining means including clip members secured in confronting relation with respect to each other on the walls of each of the compartments and opening in a downward direction to receive the open edge portions of the bag in each compartment, with said compartments being substantially the same size of said bags when said bags are in distended position, and a hinged cover for said compartments.
