Description

(No Model.)
0. 1v[, WOODIN.
.SLAT SUPPORTBR FOR BEDSTEADS.
No. 273,332. Patented Mar. 6,1883.
A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES M. WOODIN, OF EVERETT, MASSACHUSETTS.
SLAT-SUPPORTER FOR BEDSTEADS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,332, dated March 6, 1883.
Application filed January 19, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES M. WooDIN, of Everett, in the county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Slat- Supporters for Bedsteads, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a rear side elevation of my improved slat-supporter; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section of a bedstead provided with thesupporter; Fig. 3, an isometrical perspective view, showing this supporter detached from the rail; and Fig. 4, a transverse section of the supporter and rail.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawlugs.
My invention relates to that class of slatsupporters which are attached to the side rails of the bedstead; and it consistsin a supporter having a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, by which a simpler, cheaper, and more "effective article of this character is produced than is now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation, its extreme simplicity rendering an elaborate description unnecessary. Y
In the drawings, A represents the body 0 the supporter, B O the flanges, and d holes for receiving screws in attaching it to the bedstead. At its rear side there is a laterally-projecting'flange, as, having a knife-edge extendin g entirely around the same, and designed to slightly penetrate the rail when the supporter is attached, as shown in Fig. 4, thereby pre-v venting bugs and other vermin from secreting themselves between the holder and rail D. The bearing-surface E of the supporter is inclined from its rear to its front side in order that the point of contact between the slat G and said surface may always be as near the rail D as possible, thereby rendering the supporter less liable to be loosened or detached from the rail by the action of the slat, the leverage being lessened in accordance with the distance of said pointof contact from the outer edge, f. The slat is prevented from escaping laterally by means of the'upwardly-projecting ends H, which, as well as the flanges B 0 w, are cast integral with the body of the supporter.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim isp 1. In'abed-slat supporter substantially such as described, the body A, having the inclined bearing-surface E, ends H, and screw-holes d, substantially as set forth.
2. In a bed-slat supporter substantially such as described, the flange w, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The improved bed slat supporter described, the same consisting of the body A, having the inclined surface E, ends H, flange at, and screw-holes 01, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
