Description
July 13, 1954 c. WElL BLANKET Filed Aug. 18, 1952 INVENTOR CHARLES WEIL ATTORNEYS Patented July 13, 1954 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention has to do with bed coverings and relates more particularly to a blanket peculiarly suited for use on an infants crib or bed, although of course it may be used upon any bed or mattress.
It is an object of the invention to provide a covering or blanket of this character which incorporates novel means for conveniently and releasably anchoring the same in a position which enables the blanket not only to be secured in position against being accidentally displaced, but also in a position retaining the sheets and other bed clothes against being displaced.
' on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawing, I show in Fig. 1 an infant's crib or bed C supporting a conventional mattress M over which is spread a conventional sheet S.
My improved blanket, generally denoted by the numeral 5, comprises a body or sheet I5 composed of a suitable material, such as a woolen or cotton fabric, which is preferably rectangular in shape and is wider and longer than the width and length of the mattress.
The body l5 has side marginal portions l1, l8 and an end marginal portion l9, which marginal portions are folded downwardly into position substantially normal to the medial portion of the body, and the marginal side ortions are stitched to the marginal end portion as by stitching 22 (Fig. 4) r The marginal end portion I9 is longer than the marginal side portions whereby to provide what I call a marginal end extension 24 from. whose respective sides extend integral tabs 25, each having a pair of elements 26 of conventional snap fasteners, the cooperating portions of the snap fasteners being carried by the marginal side portions [1, [8 adjacent the footend of the blanket as shown at 21. A binding strip 28 may be secured along the marginal side portions and front end portion as by wave stitching 29.
The marginal side portions merge into the front or head portion of the blanket in such a manner that the latter is disposed relatively flatly on the crib or bed and preferably has anchoring strips 35 secured to its edge portions. The free ends of those strips may be tied to the bed or crib posts as shown in Fig. 1.
In use, the foot end of the blanket is placed with the marginal side portions l1, l8 and the marginal end portion l9 disposed against the sides and foot end of the mattress M and sheet S, and then the marginal end extension 24 is folded under the mattress and the tabs 2'5 are folded upwardly and the fastener elements 26 are engaged with the fastener elements 2'! carried by the marginal side portion. Thus it will be observed that the foot end portion of the blanket is in position receiving the foot end of the mattress and other bed clothes placed thereon so that not only is the blanket itself held against escape but also the bed clothes underlying the blanket are likewise held in position until the blanket is released by unsnapping the fastener elements, at which time the blanket may be conveniently lifted from the bed or crib. Since the fastener elements are disposed at the sides, they are in position to be conveniently fastened or unfastened. So as to secure the head or front portion of the blanket from being displaced, the strips 35 may be conveniently tied to the posts of the crib or bed.
I claim:
In a blanket, a rectangular cloth body having depending side portions and a depending foot end portion, said foot end portion having an extension foldable beneath and spaced below said body for the reception of the foot end portion of a mattress, and means for so releasably securing said extension to said side portions as to enable said blanket to be removed from the foot end portion of said mattress without the necessity of lifting said mattress portion, comprising an upwardly disposed flexible relatively narrow tab secured to each side edge portion of said extension at a point spaced forwardly from said foot end portion and cooperating releasable fastener means carried by the free end portion of each of said tabs and each of said side portions.
