NAIL-CLI'NCHER FOR HORSESHOES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,067, dated September 12, 1882.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. DEITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bingen, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Nail-Clincher for Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.

My nail-clincher is constructed like a pair of tongs, consisting of two handles and two jaws,

The one jaw is straight, and provided with three or more depressions and as many grooves to form projections, in order to engagein the heads of the nails or take hold of the edge of the horseshoe, preventing it from slipping when the clincher is used. The other jaw is curved and notched, so as to form serrated teeth to take hold of the clipped ends of the nails when pressed and closed on them.

Figure 1 is a side view of my improved in- Fig. 2 represents the straight jaw A, with the depressions a a a and grooves with projections 11 b b. The curved jaw B is a continuation of the handle 0 and the straight jaw A a continuation with the handle D, the whole beingjoined and pivoted with pin E, the two parts crossing each other and working like a pair of pinchers.

The implement is used for clinching nails when shoeing horses. The jaw A is applied to the horseshoe. One or other of the depresfor horseshoes.

The tongs being now properly opened, the curved jaw B is made to take hold of the clipped nail, and by pressing the handles together and giving them at the same time a steady downward motion the nail is properly and expeditiously clinched.

1 am aware that a patent was granted to Nicholas Repp, June 8, 1867, for nail clincher Said invention consists of an implement in which the two movable parts do not cross each other like a pair of tongs, but are connected by a pivoted fulcrum, and the jaws close by separating the handles.

I am also aware that the curved notchedjaw is an old device, forming part of the common shoemakers pinchers.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
