1 Gleitm- (L'lll-l) y This invention relates toi new and useful improvenrents and structurall refinements in`- shaving-brushes, and the principal object ofthe invention is to provide a device ofv the character herein described, in which the shaving brush is equipped in the handle portion thereof `with a receptacle and dispensing means for shaving cream;
A further object of ther invention is to provide shaving brush in which the shaving cream` may .bef easily and conveniently' dispensed and: in which the shaving cream chamber or receptacle vmay be readily refilled whenv the contents thereof have been exhausted.
Another object of the invention is to provide ashaving brush inl which the shaving cream dispensing means is of a self-sealing nature, so; as to preventthe creamV from drying when the brush is not in use.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a shaving brush which is simple in construction, durable, and which will readily lend itself to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects in view, and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a longitudinal cross sectional view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an exploded view showing the various components of the invention;
Figure 4 is an end view of the handle portion per se, the same being taken substantially in the plane of the line 4-4 in Figure 3.
Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specication and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings -in detail, the invention consists of a shaving brush designated generally by the reference character I0, the same embodying in its construction a handle II forming a substantially cylindrical chamber I2, one end portion of this chamber being separated by a partition I3 to provide a recess I 4, as is best shown in Figures 1 and 3.
The recess I4 is adapted for the mounting of the usual bristles I5, the latter being secured in position in any suitable manner. It will be also noted that the partition I3 is equipped with a 2 tubular sleevey It, the latter' extending into' the recess III4 and the purpose thereof being hereinafter more fully described.

' follower designated generally' bythe refer'- ence character 25l is operatively positioned on ythe shaft 23, the follower consisting of a sealing disk 2t formed from suitable resilient material and interposed between a pair of clamping disks 2l. The three disks are secured together by suitable rivets 28 and the clamping disks 21 are provided with internally threaded bosses 29 which engage the shaft 23, as will be clearly understood.
The follower 25 is prevented from rotating with the shaft 23 by means of a plurality of guide ribs 3U which are provided on and extending longitudinally of the lateral wall of the chamber I2 and are slidably receivable in a plurality of notches 3| formed in the follower. It will be apparent that in this manner. rotation of the cap I9 will be concurrent with linear movement of the follower.
The shaving cream may be placed in the chamber I2 either by removing the parts I9, 20, 23 and 25 from the body II, or alternatively, through the medium of a bored nipple 32 provided medially the length of the body. The nipple 32 is equipped with a screw cap 33 and communicates with the chamber I2, as will be clearly understood. A dispensing tube 34, preferably formed from resilient material, is positioned in the aforementioned vsleeve I6 and extends into the bristles I5, one end portion of the tube, that is, the inner end portion of the tube being formed with .an enlarged flange 35 which seats against the inner surface of the partition I3.
The mid-portion of the tube 34 is normally co1- lapsed as indicated at 36, this providing what may be referred to as a self-sealing feature whereby the shaving cream in the chamber I2 is prevented from drying when the brush is not in use.
However, when the brush is being used, rotation of the cap I9 will advance the follower 25 toward the partition I 3 and, as a result, shaving cream in the chamber I2 will be forced through the bore of the tube 34 and into the bristles I5. The advantages of the invention thus become clearly apparent and it is to be noted that since the outer end portion of the tube 34 is cylindrical, it Will retain therein a certain amount of cream after the follower 25 is actuated, and this residual amount of cream may subsequently be discharged by applying pressure with the bristles to the face.
If desired, the cap I9 may be provided with an air passage 31, so as to prevent the tendency of partial vacuum being formed in the empty end of the chamber I2 as the follower 25 travels in the direction of the partition I3.
It is believed that the advantages and use oi' the invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing disclosure and, accordingly, further description thereof at this point is considered unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred .embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. `What I claim as my invention is:
In a fountain brush for use with shaving cream, the combination of a hollow handle affording a chamber therein and having an end Wall provided with a central opening, a tuft of bristles extending outwardly from said end wall, a dispensing tube of resilient material disposed axially in said tuft of bristles and having an inner end portion thereof secured in said opening in communication with said chamber, and pressure means in said chamber for expelling material through said tube, said tube being substantially shorter than said bristles and including a cylindrical outer end portion and a fiat deformable intermediate portion having contacting walls in the absence of pressure in the chamber whereby to provide closure means, the walls of said intermediate portion being deformable to an open substantially cylindrical form by the passage of material through said tube when said pressure means are actuated.
