MarCh 25, 1952 v KRQMRAY LIPSTICK AND BRUSH COMPACT Filed March 24, 1950 INVENTOR.
Viva Kromruy Attorney Patented Mar. 25, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE LIPSTICK AND BRUSH COMPACT Viva Kromray, Argo, 111.
Application March 24, 1950, Serial No. 151,727
1 Claim.
My invention relates to lipstick and brush compacts.
An important object of my invention is to provide a lipstick and brush compact of cylindrical shape and construction which occupy the minimum of space in a lady's purse.
Another object of my invention is to provide a lipstick and brush applicator compact of the aforementioned character composed of a lipstick unit, a brush unit and a transparent tubular structure interconnecting the same in proper assembly.
A further object of my invention is to provide in a brush applicator and lipstick compact a brush applicator unit which is reversibly positioned alternately to operative and inoperative positions, being concealed in inoperative position within the brush applicator unit.
A further object of my invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which is attractive in appearance, occupies a minimum of space and is of such simple elemental construction as to lend itself to production in quantities economically.
Other objects and advantages inherent in my invention will become apparent from the ensuing description translated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the three unitary elements comprising my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the three elements depicted in Fig. 1 in assembly.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view partially in crosssection showing a slightly modified form of my invention. I
Fig. 4 is an exploded view showing the four elements comprising my invention in its slightly modified form.
Fig. 5 is an assembled view of the brush applicator and brush holder as a unit shown in operative position.
At present there is a vogue and a preference for the use of lipstick and the application thereof by means of a brush applicator in order to more carefully and more accurately define the contour of the lips with the lipstick.
In connection therewith, the invention depicted in the accompanying drawings has been provided in order to furnish a compact unit that is readily accessible in a ladys purse, and available for application of the lipstick by means of the brush applicator hereinbefore mentioned.
An important feature of my invention is, considering the form indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 as made available for sale by display on counters,
counter cards, or show cases, that the transparent central section thereof holding the two units together in assembly will instantly indicate to a prospective purchaser the nature and object of my invention. Thus it is also enhanced in its merit by having inherent advertising features and values which will relieve sales people of the explanations necessary, consequently speeding up sales.
Referring to Fig. 1, my invention is generally designated 6, and consists of a lipstick unit I; a brush holder or applicator unit l2 and a central tubular section II made of Lucite or other suitable transparent plastic material.
The central tubular section I l is provided with a bore l6 which will fit frictionally over the frictional gripping portions ID on the reduced shoulder 9 of the lipstick unit I, and over the projections or protruberances I5 of the brush holder unit l2.
In the brush holder unit, I provide a brush [3 having bristles [4 whereas the lipstick unit I carries a lipstick 8 of suitable length. It is to be noted that when the article is assembled as indicated in Fig. 2 the bristles l4 and the lipstick 8 will not contact one another.
In the modified form illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 the structure generally designated [1 is practically the same, with the exception that the brush holder unit designated 2| is of slightly difierent construction, wherein a reversible type of brush holder 3 is provided having a bristle holding element [9 with bristles 20. The opposite end 22 is suitably recessed in order to receive the shoulder 23 in frictional engagement. The said shoulder is placed in the holder I 8 when it is in operative position and ready for use in connection with the lipstick 8. In order to make for a more compact construction the brush holder I8 is placed in the brush holder 2| by reversing the position thereof so that the bristles 20 will be confined in the conical cavity 24 thus providing a construction which will be shorter in length and occupy less space in a lady's purse. The central tubular section 25 will be shorter than the one designated l I.
In order to use the construction illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 the lipstick holder I and the brush holder I2 are removed from the central tubular section II, and the bristles M are used to scrape off some of the lipstick 8, the same being subsequently applied to the lips by means of the bristles l4. Likewise in the construction illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 the brush holder unit 2| is removed first, the section I8 is then removed from the brush holder 2! its position reversed and replaced by means of the bore in the end 22 being fitted over the shoulder 23. Then the brush holder unit 2| is ready for service, whereby the bristles 20 are utilized in the same manner to remove or scrape off some of the lipstick 8 for subsequent application to the lips.
The tubular sections II and 25 may be attached interchangeably at either of their ends to either the lipstick unit or the brush unit as shown in dotted lines and arrows of Fig. 1.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus disclosed and revealed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Lipstick and applicator compact means, comprising a lipstick unit provided with a reduced shoulder portion having frictional gripping portions thereon, an applicator unit including a brush holder element having a conical cavity therein and a reduced shoulder portion, and an applicator having recessed portions at each end 4 thereof adapted to be frictionally removably and optionally secured to the said last-mentioned reduced shoulder portion in order to conceal an operative portion thereof in the said conical cavity and expose alternately the said applicator unit, and further adapted to assemble the said lipstick unit to the said applicator unit to form a flush outer cylindrical surface at the points of juncture. I v
VIVA KROMRAY.
