Description

(No Model) A. SANFORD.
' 0X SHOE.
No. 258,321. Patented May 23, 1882.
A? iesir fun/e ntorv I3 (zzme erence being had to the accompanying draw- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEZC ALBERT SANFORD, 0F OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN.
OX-SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,321, dated May 23, 1882.
Application filed March 25, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT SANFORD, of Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State ofWisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ox-Shoes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, refings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a shoe constructed in accordaneewith lnyinvention. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Similar letters of reference in the several fig ures denote the same parts.
On the th day of August, 1880, a patent was granted me for animproved ox-shoc. This shoe has become extensively introduced, and has become to be regarded as a valuable improvement upon shoes previously manufactured.
In examining shoes of this class that have been worn a considerable time I have found that the greatest wear takes place along the outer edge of the shoe, including the outer portion of the toe and heel calks and the outer portion of the intermediate calk or cnlks, while the inner portion of the calks gives but little evidence of wear. These investigations have resulted in a change of structure in the shoe, which I have found from practical test to in crease the durability of the shoe in a marked degree. The change referred to consists in forming all the calks of the shoe broader or I (No model.)
therefore be appreciated.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the improved shoe; B, the toe-calk; O,
the heel-calk, and D the intermediate callrs. All the calks, it will be observed, are much thicker and broader at their outer portions, 0, than elsewhere, thus giving increased bearing-surface, as well as a wearing surface of greater resistance.
Having thus described my in vention,Iclaim as new- An ox-shoe having toe and heel calks and one or more intermediate calks extending transversely across the shoe, all said calks being broader or laterally wider at their outer portions than elsewhere, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
ALBERT SANFORD.
