Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
L. B. RICHARDSON, OF ATHOL, MASSACHUSETTS.
LASTING-PINCERS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,762, dated October 11, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl I, L. B. RICHARDSON, of Athol, in the county of IVorcester, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Arrangement of and Application of Lasting-Pincers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l, is a side view of the instrument in the act of using, the red line showing the position of the lower jaw, when opened to receive the leather. Fig. 2, is a side View of the jaws and fulcrum in the position they assume at the end of the motion. Figs. 3, and 4L, are respectively front and side views of the movable fulcrum.
My invention consists in the application of ar movable fulcrum, A, to the pincers in such'manner as to permit the jaws B, B, to swing with the work accommodating themselves to the form of the last, and increasing the facility of using them ;-on the drawings the same letters refer to the same parts.
A shows the movable or swinging fulcrum; B, B, the jaws that grasp andhold the leather; C, C, the handles thereof; D, the pin, bolt, or screw, that connects the several parts, retaining them in their relative positions.
In using the pincers the leather is grasped by the jaws B, B, with the fulcrum A, as/J in Fig. l, and by pressing on the handles C, C, the fulcrum A retains its place on the last or insole forcing the jaws B, B, to move smoothly over the surface of the last toward the points of A; if a longer stretch is required it is only necessary to lift t-he handles C, C, when the fulcrum A can be swung forward to a new position on the last or insole and the jaws B B can be again brought to the points of the fulcrum A, by simply pressing on the handles C C; as before.
IVhat I claim, as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The application of a swinging fulcrum, to lasting pincers,-constructed and arranged substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth in the above specification.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of two witnesses.
L. B. RICHARDSON.
