Description

P. GETZ.
Cooking Stove.
Patented Oct. 4, 1859.
Inventor: war 3 Witnesses:
UNITED STATES PATENT GFIGE.
PETER GETZ. OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
COOKING-TOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,637, dated October 4, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER GETZ, of the city of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of my combined steam cook, or locomotive cook-stove, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stove with the improvement in place.
The body V, of the stove, with its base and ash box '2), is of the ordinary form made of cast or sheet iron. The drum head A has an oven C, for baking, shown by the pan 1). Across its lower segment is a flat bottom 00, with the oven door E, attached thereto, beneath this bottom is the door F to the opening P (.Fig. 3) over the fire chamber, for the reception of the lano-convex steamgenerator I (Figs. 4: and 5), connected to the side boilers H, H, by the cross pipe G opening into each. These side boilers are supported in the rear by the she ves It, attached to the outside of the boiler-tank O, in rear of the stove. This tank 0, has a pipe beneath it crosswise marked K, opening into the bottom on each side at s, s, (Fig. 6) and centrally into the connecting and supporting pipe L, which latter enters the steam generator B, around the cylinder or fire chamber M, its only opening except the spigot N, as shown in the side elevation Fig. 2, and the front Fig. 3, (in sections).
Figs. 4 and 5 show the side boilers H, connecting pipe G, and steam generator I, detached.
Fig. 6 is a transverse section across the boiler-tank O, boilers 1,2, and 3 and side boilers H, generator I, and B, and steam pipes K, L, G. The tank 0 is supported by the legs Y.
I also have two draft or draft holes T, in the bottom of my stove, on each side of the ash-box c, Fig. 3.
By pouring water into the boiler-tank 0, it necessarily finds its way through the openings S, and pipes K, L, into the steam generating-box B, in immediate contact with the fire chamber M, thus steam is speedily generated and imparted to the water in the tank and boilers, which are thereby brought into brisk ebullition as is well known. The side boilers being easily set on and oil, are of peculiar advantage on wash days or when quantities of hot water are required, without interfering with the ordinary culinary operations going on.
This combination and arrangement, will be found, on close inspection, to embrace all the qualities so highly desirable in a practical and economical point of view, and can not fail to recommend itself to all hotel keepers or persons having large families or the like.
I am aware that the use of steam is not new, having myself obtained Letters Patentdated January 11, 18%, fora similar process, which has since become common property without ever enabling me to realize the cost of the patent, as can be clearly shown. I therefore do not claim the steam generating process nor the separate parts of the stove, &c.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The specific arrangement of the boilers O, H, H, drum head oven C, and their combination in manner as set forth for the purpose specified.
PETER GETZ.
