Application August 20, 1947, Serial No. 769,597
2 Claims. l This invention relates to a record cabinet. It is an object of the present invention to provide a record cabinet whereby groups of records can be pulled from the cabinet by withdrawing a cover to allow the records to roll downwardly over an inclined support and whereby the records can be taken as a group from the single compartment and inserted upon the record player.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a record cabinet which will consume little space, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and convenient to use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view, in elevation, of my record cabinet with one door pulled downwardly to permit the records to be advanced through the front opening of the cabinet.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary and front elevational view of the cabinet with one of the doors pulled downwardly.
, Fig. 3 is a full front elevational view of the cabinet.
Fig. 4 is a transverse cross-sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 1. f
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional View, in elevation, taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 4.
yReferring now to the Figures, III represents an upright casing which is supported upon legs II and which has a top I2, Within the casing are inclined shelves or members I3 and I4 vertically spaced from one another and providing the bottoms of a plurality of compartments I5. At the front of the casing are a plurality of vertically extending bars or members IS whereby to provide the openings I5. Hinged to the bottom of each of the openings and adjacent the lower ends of the inclined bottoms I3 and I4 of the compartments are doors Il adapted to be dropped downwardly and forwardly. The hinge connection is indicated at I 8. When the doors Il are drawn downwardly, records I9 will roll forwardly onto the doors but will be prevented from rolling outwardlyfrom the ends of the doors due to the fact thatthe doors are maintained slightly upwardly inclined. Knobs 2I are fastened on the upper ends of the doors and are pulled when the doors are to be dropped down. Strips 22 are provided tomaintain the records I9 against displacement.
A plurality of records are disposed in each compartment and can be withdrawn as a group and inserted upon a record player. An indication can be made on the outer faces of the door to advise the person as to the nature or type of records which are disposed in the compartment.
Pivoted to the sides of the bottom piece as indicatedat 24 are levers or members 25 which are connected by links 26 with the sides of the door. These pivoted members 25 are moved forwardly and rearwardly as the door is opened or closed. Upon moving forwardly the upper inclined ends 2l will engage with the'front p-ieces I5 whereby to support through the link 26 the door I'i in an inclined andk forwardly extended position as shown in Fig. 1. The link 26 vis pivoted to the member 25 as indicated at 28 and to the door I1 as indicated at 29.
While various changes may be madev in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim: i
V1. In a record cabinet, a casing, legs for supporting said casing, a pair of spaced parallel inclined shelves arranged in said casing and deiining compartments in the latter, a plurality of vertically disposed spaced parallel bars secured to the front of said casing and providing openings'for saidcompartments, a door mounted for opening and closing movement with respect to each of said openings, said doors being constructed so that records are supported thereon when the doorsare in opened position, and means for supporting said doors in their open position, said doors being inclined oppositely from said shelves when the doors are in open position.
2. In a record cabinet, a casing, legs for supporting said casing, a pair of spaced parallel inclined shelves arranged in said casing and deflning compartments in the latter, a plurality of vertically disposed spaced parallel bars secured to the front of said lcasing and providing openings for said compartments, a door mounted for opening and closing movement with respect to each of said openings, said doors being constructed so that records are supported thereon when the doors are in openedposition, and means for supporting said doors in their open position, said last named means comprising a pair of spaced parallel levers each having their lower ends pivotally connected to the bottom of said compartments, and links pivotally connecting said levers to said doors, said doors being inclined oppositely from said shelves when the doors are in open position, said levers abutting said bars when the doors are in open position.
