DANCING DOLL Filed June 7, 1948 4 FIG.
FIG. 2
IN! 'ENTOR. LOU/SE I? GENO/V5 A GEN I" Patented Nov. 21, 1950 .UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,530,610 DANCING DOLL Louise P. Genone, San Diego, Calif.
Application June 7, 1948, Serial No. 31,552
4 Claims. I
My invention relates to a dancing doll, more particularly to a doll of the articulated type, and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a dancing doll of this class which closely imitates attitudes and poses of artistic nature performed by dancers;
Second, to provide a doll of this class which may be arranged in certain artistic attitudes and poses for ing the art of dancing;
Third, to provide a dancing doll of this class having articulated members which may be ma" nipulated by a teacher for instructing students in various graceful movements performed by a dancer;
Fourth, to provide a dancing doll of this class which is very entertaining to manipulate;
Fifth, to provide a dancing doll of this class which employs novel hearing means forming a common pivotal axis for the head and arms in connection with the torso member of the doll;
Sixth, to provide an articulated doll of this class having finger loops in connection with the torso member and leg members thereof, whereby fingers of the operator may be employed to manipulate the doll in various dancing movements;
Seventh, to provide a dancing doll of this class which is particularly adapted for use in connection with simulating the steps of the tap dancer; and
Eighth, to provide a dancing doll of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efficient in operation, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, as will he hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference thereon forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of my dancing doll. and Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view, taken from the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.
The torso arm members 2 and 3, head member 4, bearing member 5, leg members 5, l, 8 and 9, feet It! and H, taps I2, i3, i4, and I5, hip bearing I i, knee bearings ll and I8, ankle bearings l9 and 2t and finger loops 2!, 22 and 23 constitute the principal parts and portions of my dancing doll.
In the construction of my dancing doll, I employ iiat, thin sheets of material, as shown in 2 of the drawing, which may be of any suitable composition desired. The torso member 5' is shaped at its outline to simulate the profile of a dancers body. Extending through the torso member 5 at its upper end is the hearing member on which the arm members 2 and 3 are pivoted, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The head member a is also pivoted on the bearing 5, therefore moves about a common pivotal axis with the arms in connection with the torso memrer The leg members i3 and l simulate the as of a dancer and are constructed of fiat pieces of material, and these leg members 6 and are pivoted to the torso member i by means e hip hearing Pivoted to the lower ends or the leg members i; and 7| are the leg members 5 and which form the shins of the dancing doll, all as shown best in i of the drawing. These leg members 8 and 9 are pivoted to the leg memher and l by means of the knee bearings l1 and respectively. The feet iiiand l l are pivoted by means of the ankle bearings 59 and 20 to the lower ends of the leg members 8 and 9. Clipped to the toe and heel portions of the feet is and H are the taps i2, i3, I4 and I5, all as shown best in Fig. l of the drawings. The taps l2 and is secured to the foot it are preferably metal clips and operate to simulate the taps of a tap dancer. The taps M and i5 are similar in construction to the taps l2 and I3. The finger loops 2!, 22 and 23 are made of resilient material and are held to the leg members 6, l and the torso member I by metal clips 2m, 22a and 23a, respectively. A persons forefinger may be inserted through the loop 23, while his ring finger and thumb may be inserted through the loops 21 and 22, respectively, providing control for the torso I and the respective legs of my dancing doll when manipulating the same for simulating the movements of a dancer.
The operation of my dancing doll is substantially as follows: Pivotal movement of the head member 1 about the axis of the bearing member 5, and pivotal movement of the arms 2 and 3 about the axis of said bearing member 5, permit the operator of my dancing doll to pose the same in certain positions simulating artistic attitudes of a dancer, and this use of my dancing doll permits a teacher to illustrate to dancing students certain dancing and posing techniques. When the fingers of the operator are positioned in the loops El, 22 and 23, as hereinbefore described, the operator of my dancing doll may manipulate the leg members and the body of the dancing doll for simulating various movements, including tap dancing, wherein the taps l2, l3, l4 and [5 provide realistic sound effects upon a thin surface, so that my dancing doll is very entertaining in addition to being educational. The bearing members l6, l1, l8, l9 and 2!] provide natural pivotal movement of the leg and feet members relatively to the torso member I, so that simulation of many dancing movements may be accurately portrayed or imitated as desired.
It will be here noted that the taps I2, l3, l4 and I5 are preferably of heavy material so that they cause the feet of the doll to gravitate, and pendulum action of the lower leg members of the doll may be accomplished by proper manipulation.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a dancing doll of the class described, a torso member, arm members, a head member and common bearing means pivotally connecting said head member, arm members and said torso member, leg members pivotally connected to the lower end of said torso member, finger loops in connection with said leg members and said torso member at opposite sides of the pivotal axis of said legs with said torso member.
2. In a dancing roll of the class described, a torso member, arm members, a head member and common bearing means pivotally connecting said head member, arm members and said torso member, leg members pivotally connected to the lower end of said torso member, finger loops in connection with said leg members and said torso member at opposite sides of the pivotal axis of said legs with said torso member, feet members pivotally connected to said leg members.
3. In a dancing doll of the class described, a torso member, arm members, a head member and common bearing means pivotally connecting said head member, arm members and said torso member, leg members pivotall connected to the lower end of said torso member, finger loops in connection with said leg members and said torso member at opposite sides of the pivotal axis of said legs with said torso member, feet members pivotally connected to said leg members, taps on said feet members.
4. In a dancing (1011 of the class described, a torso member, arm members, a head member and common bearing means pivotall connecting said head member, arm members and said torso member, leg members pivotally connected to the lower end of said torso member, finger loops in connection with said leg members and said torso member at opposite sides of the pivotal axis of said legs with said torso member, feet members pivotally connected to said leg members, taps on said feet members, knee bearings in connection with said leg members and shin-forming leg members connected with said knee bearings and said feet members.
