Application February 4, 1946, Serial No. 645,316
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a wall hook.
An object of this invention is to provide a hook having means thereon for preventing articles suspended from the hook from being accidentally knocked off and detached from the hook.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hook that is simple and durable in construction and can be manufactured at a low cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment of the invention partly in section and Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the reference numeral Ii] designates the body of the hook, having a straight back portion [2 with a screw shank l3 by which it is adapted to engage the wall or any other suitable support, formed integral with the back portion [2, is the downwardly and upwardly curved portion I l on which coats or other articles may hang and the upwardly curved portion IE on which it is intended to hang hats or other articles.
The back portion 12 is provided with a seat Hi to receive the end of the spring clamping member 20 by means of fasteners 22.
The member 20 is curved at 24 to form the depending portion 26 and is again curved at 28 upwardly to confirm with the conformation of curved portion I6. The member 20 is then bent up itself to form the loop 3|]. Both the portion I4 and portion l6 are provided with ball forrna tions 32 on the free end thereof to prevent damage to the articles suspended thereon.
It will be noted that there is a sufficient clearance between the curved portion l6 and member 20 to firmly grasp the article hung thereon but will not crush or damage the article.
When a hat or the like is to be suspended from the portion N5 the member 20 is raised sufficiently to insert the hat thereunder and upon releasing of the member 26 the member will engage the hat and retain the hat thereon.
It is believed that the construction and use of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of lparts can be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
In a, wall hook, a body having a straight rear portion provided with a seat formed therein, an upwardly and outwardly directed portion at the upper end of the straight portion, a downwardly and upwardly outwardly extending portion at the lower end of the straight portion and formed integrally therewith, a spring clamping having a flat straight side secured to said straight portion in said seat formed therein, said member having a downwardly curved portion at its upper end said curved portion being curved upwardly at its lower end and curved to conform to the shape of the outwardly extending curved portion at the upper end of said straight portion, and the end of said upwardly curved portion of said spring clamping member bent up on itself to form a loop at the end thereof.
