Description
UNTTED STATES PATEN T OFFTCE.
THOMAS DOUGI-IERTY, OF MACON, GEORGIA.
LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 24,287, dated June '7, 1859.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS DOUGHERTY, of Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Iniproved Hasp-Lock; and I do hereby declare that .the following is a full and exact description, with the accompanying drawings.
The nature of my invention consists in uniting the hasp and lock in one.
Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is the interior View. Fig. 3 is the front view.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the back case.
B is the bolt which locks the pin G and held to its position by the springs C, D and E. T he key lifting out the springs C, D and E permits the bolt Bto slide back to its proper' place L when unlocked.
C, D. and E are three springs lying upon each other and locking in notch K, which is cut in bolt B.
F is a brace cast in the case A for the purpose of giving strength to the springs C, D and E to prevent the forcing of the bolt B.
G is the place to receive the pin, over which the lock is thrown to fasten with bolt B.
H is the pin by which the lock is suspended.
I is the knob to move bolt B.
K is the notch in bolt B to receive the springs C, D and E when locked.
L is the cavity to receive bolt B when unlocked.
M is the stud on which the key revolves to unlock bolt B. The lock can be made to dispense with knob I and unlock and move bolt B with the key.
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The employment of the spring tumblers C, D and E when constructed and operated in the manner described, in connection with the bolt B, the said springs being detained by the key to let the bolt slide as specified.
FERDINAND M. Soren, E. C. G'RANNIss.
