BLOW-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,136, dated May 4, 1880.
Application filed June 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAUNGEY R. STUNTZ, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Blow-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide workers with the blow-pipe with a cheap efficient instrument that can be operated with illuminating-gas or with the common lamp.
In constructing the blow-pipe the air-tube A of the accompanying drawing is left open at the end E, and is passed through the center of the gas-tube B at right angles to it. The air-jet G is attached to A, projecting a short distance within it, and is constructed to deliver the air in the line of the axis of B, while B delivers the gas equally around it.
To provide for its use as a common blowpipe with a lamp, B is made shorter than the air-jet O, and has a tube, D, of suitable length, fitted to the outside.
To operate the blow-pipe, close the opening E with a cork, attach B by hose to a gas-pipe,
and adjust the flow to the size of flame required.
The collected moisture when troublesome is removed by the'opening E.
To use it with a lamp, detach the hose and remove the tube D.
The gas blow-pipes on which this my invention is an improvement consist, essentially, so far as your petitioner is informed, of an airjet that is concentric with a gas-tube, which, by acomplicated apparatus, admits the gas into the side of the tube.
I claim 1. The combination of the blowtube A, gas-tube B, and detachable tube D, whereby the blow-pipe may be used with gas and with a lamp.
2. The blow-tube A, having the opening E, in combination with the gas-tube B and jet 0.
OHAUNOEY R. STUNTZ.
