gPA'IENT oFFlcE My invention relates vto hat supporting devices and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a hat suporting device adapted to be attached to a ceiling or the like and which y is equipped with a plurality of hat racks and op- I ence characters designate like partsthroughout the several views: f

In practicing my invention, vI provide a tube 5 having inner fixed and outer movable telescoping sections 6 and I respectively. The upperend of the inner 'section 6 is secured between a pair of spaced connected arms 8 of a bracket 9, the latter being integrally formed with right angularly disposed ceiling engaging feet I0 secured to a ceil4 ing I I by means hereinafter set forth. The upper end of the section i5 is secured'between said arms 8 by means of a transverse pin I3 extending therethrough.

An outer bracket I5 is fashioned with a pair of downwardly extending spaced arms I6 integrally connected together at their lower ends by a cross bar I'I. Theupper ends of the arms I6 engage vthe outer faces of the arms 8 and serve to prevent displacement of the pin I3 carried by the arms 8.

The upper ends of the arms I6 are fashioned with right angularly disposed feet I8 underlying the outer faces of the feet I0 and screws I2 extend through the feet Il)r and I8 andinto the ceiling whereby to secure the brackets 9 and I5 fixed to said ceiling as a unit.

v` The lower endof the section 'I has extending therethrough a'nger ring 20 to which is connected, within said lower end thereof, the lower end of a coil spring 2I. The upper'end of' said coil spring is connected to the pin I3 and thereby urges the section 'I upwardly towards the ceil- 5 ing and into retracted position. The bar I'I ol the bracketv I5 coacts `with the upper endof the section 'I to limit the upward movement thereof. Obviously,'when the linger ring 20 is grasped, the section 'I may be actuated downwardly rela- 10 tive to the section 6 and against the tension of the spring 2l. Release of the nger ring effects upward movement of the section 'I vthrough the medium ofsaid spring 2l.

Fixed to the section 'I area pair of spaced rack 15 supporting members 22, one being arranged ad- J'acent the lower end of said section 1 while the other is arranged intermediate the ends thereof. `Themembers 22 are of a cylindrical conguration and have formed therethrough a plu- 20 rality of axially extending bores 23 terminating at the upper ends thereof in radially extending recessesin the upper faces of said members 22.

v Positioned within the bores 23 are vertically disposed yends 22a of horizontally lextending inner 25 end sections 23a. of hat racks 24. The outer ends of the sections 23a, 'terminate upwardly in vertically disposed sections 25, the upper ends of which are formed with substantially ring-shaped horizontally disposedhat supporting elements 26. 30 The vertically disposed ends 22a. of the sections 23a are maintained within the respective bores 23 byy means of caps 2l overlying the upper faces of the members 22 and sections 23a. The caps 21 are provided with oppositely disposed verti- 35 cal ngers 28 engaging the peripheries of the Amembers 22 and are provided with offset ends underlying the under faces of said members.

From the foregoing it will be apparent that I y have provided a simple and ecient hat support- 40 ing device adapted to be secured to a ceiling or the like and which is operable in a manner wherebyl the racks of said device maybe readily which areJcapable of extended application in-ad- Vance forms, and that the invention comprehends 55 all construction within the scope of the ed claims.

What I claim is:

1. A device of the character described, comprising, avbracket adapted to be secured to a ceiling, a tube extending subjacent said bracket and provided with a pair of telescoping sections,

appendone of said sections having an upper end disposed v within said bracket, the other of said sections having a lower end extending beyond said rst defined section, an operating element xed to said lower end, a coil spring extending through said tube and having one end connected to said element, a pin extending through said upper end and said bracket and connecting the other' end of said spring to said upper end and the latter to said bracket whereby to effect relative retraction of said sections, a bracket connected to said rst mentioned bracket and maintaining said pin in `ixed position within the first mentioned bracket and said upper end, and hat racks
