When the three main portions l5, l6 and I! together with the belt portion l8, are operatively sewed together, they will form a pair of men's shorts wherein the leg portions are not separated to form two independent parts converging upwardly to the crotch, but are rather joined by the middle portion IT at their innermost and preferably their lowermost portions, thereby providing considerable roominess below the crotch for comfort, And it will be noted that the entire section of portion I1 directly underlying the region of the crotch is smooth and free of seams or junctures, thereby obviating the danger of irritation and chafing. The arrangement is such that the only seams near such region are those formed by the edges 23 and 24 and in the vicinity thereof, and it is evident that in such locations they are sufficiently remotely positioned as to be entirely harmless, and also not subject to exces- SlVe wear.

Inasmuch as portions l5 and I6 are not absolutely independent leg portions as in conventional shorts, it is preferred and highly desirable to position middle portion I! on a bias as indicated, so as to permit both longitudinal and transverse stretching thereof, thereby allowing freedom of movement of both leg portions 15 and I6 and such flexibility as may be necessary. With this arrangement it is apparent that no special elastic material is required to permit freedom of movement, and that the entire garment can bemade from a single piece of loom fabric. 1.

For a loose fitting garment of this class having a high fly front, my invention is particularly adaptable. This is due to the fact that the lowermost'terminal of the fly can serve as a juncture for the uppermost front section of middle portion H, which is necessary in accordance with this invention.

Specifically, the leg portions 39 and 40 of this modified form of my invention are joined to edges 36 and 31 of the middle portion 35. The upper rounded portion 4| is joined to the undercut portion 42 of leg portion39 and the corresponding undercut of leg portion 40; and the edges 43 and 44 are joined to edge 45 of the leg portion 39 and the corresponding edge of leg portion 4'.) whereby the edges 46 and 41 of the middle portion 35 are joined to edges 48 and 49 to form full laterally enclosed leg members. With the exception of the modified patterns, this form of my invention provides substantially the same completed garment as the first described form, with identical advantages.

It is of course understood that the structures above described and shown in the drawing are illustrative of my invention and not employed by way of limitation, inasmuch as numerous changes and modifications may be made therein within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of this invention.

What I claim is: r
