NECKIIE PACKING MEANS Filed April 27) 1939 SAMUEL C. PULlTZER Patented Jan. 9, 1940 I UN s I I ]2,1ss,a91 NEOKTIETPACKING Samuel 0. Pulitzer, N ew OrleansQLa.
Application A pril 27, 1939,"Serial No. 270,453
3: Claims. (on. 206-7),
tioned so as to engage'the end of a box in which a vThis invention relates to improvements in means for packaging neckties. t
An. object of this invention is to provide a novel manner of packing neckties or the like in a container so as to prevent wrinkling and distortion thereof during shipment. Anotherobject of this invention. is to provide a compact necktie package which will enable a plurality (If-neckties to be enclosed therein with a maximum of protection from wrinkling and shifting during shipment and to be packedin' a smaller space than has been necessary by previous methods. I
A further object of this invention is to provide an insert to be placed within a necktie which will aid in retaining the form and shape of the" necktie and which will cooperate with the boxin which'such neckties are placed 'to permit packagingv of said neckties in a manner to prevent shifting and wrinkling or distortion during ship- 'ment.
In packaging neckties for shipment itis necessary that inserts beplaced therein in order to 7 keep the tie in shape and to facilitate packing and shipping of the tie package. In ordinary practice, the point or tip of the tie may be crushed by striking against the end of the box during shipment, even when the usual type of insert has been placed therein. By my novel insert and manner of packing this. objection can be avoided in a simple and efficient manner.
In the drawing the figures illustrate by way of example a suitable embodiment of my present invention, wherein-2 t Figure 1 is an elevation showing the shape and construction of a necktie insert according to my invention- I h v Figure 2 is a view in perspective showing a container base containing a pluralityof neckties with inserts in place.
.Other purposes and objects of the. invention wrinkling and distortioncaused during shipment..
will appear from a more detail description of the drawing wherein similar numerals refer to similar parts in the different views.
' use with ties of the type usually known as. four-' in-hand, but may obviously be used with other types of ties constructed so as to permit insertion I of the form.
At the broad end of the insert l,is formed a projection or tab 2 which is shaped and posirality' of ties each with its insert in place.
insert positioned within the necktie 5; is spaced I at its end 6 from the box endv 4 by means of the The insert I is a flat form conforming to the I of the end corners'of the tie box and engage the end and one side. of said box. The form, with its projection, may be made of, any flat material,
preferably a thin sheetmaterial such as light cardboard. v
In Figure 2 is showna box 3 containing a plutab or projection 2 on the insert. 9
In the figure as shown a' plurality of ties are" so placed that the projecting protecting tabs are at opposite ends of the box'for each alternate tie. However, if desired, the ties maybe placed on top'of each other with the projections engaging the sameend of the box or in any other desired order. The usual cover, not shown, is provided forbox 3., Obviously, any desired number of neckties may be placed within the conytainer depending on the size thereof. This number may be one or more. v
The tab 2 is preferably formed integrally with theb'ody of member 1 and the entire insert can be formed in one cutting operation. However, the projection may be formed separately and at-- tached icy-means of adhesive or the like. This tab, since it projects from the body of the necktie, may. perform a desirable function by havin advertising or descriptive matter'or other indicia placed thereon which is visible at a glance When as the tie is sold, the insertmay be permitted to remain in the tie thus: serving tojretain its shape- 1 until ready for use. I
By the useof the novel packing means shown it is readily apparent that the neckties may be shipped in a convenient manner, protected from The tie ends arespaced from the ends of the box and the ties areprevented from shifting, and the entire assembly providesa neat and compact package.
' While my descriptionas above stated has been directed to certain specific embodiments of my invention, other variations and embodiments are What I claim is: l
1. A necktie package comprising a container,
at leastone necktie therein, and a form retaining insert within each necktie-conforming substantially to the shape of said necktie, said insert having a projection extending longitudinally thereof beyond the tip of said necktie at its open end engaging the end of said container,- and spacing the tip of said necktie and the portion of said insert within said necktie from said end of said container.
2. A form retaining insert for packaging neckties comprising an elongated sheet member conforming substantially to the shape, of;a-, necktie, a eans pr iec neif sai Time an be- SAMUEL C. PULITZER.
