This invention relates to new and useful im provements in a toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers.

More specifically, the invention proposes the 5 construction of a toilet seat attachment for releasing sanitary tissue covers characterized by a container pivotally supported upon a toilet seat and movable to engage over the top of the seat for dispensing a sanitary tissue cover thereon.

Still further it is proposed to provide a roller within the container upon which a continuous web of toilet seats is supported, and to provide a means for feeding the end of the web through a slot formed in the bottom of the container. l5 Still further it is proposed to provide an automatic means for cutting off the extended portion cI" the web while the container is in position over the toilet seat for leaving the cut ofi portion in position thereon.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which lthe various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The toilet seat attachment for releasing sanitary tissue covers, according to this invention, comprises a container I0 of a size to extend over a toilet seat II and having a slot I2 in the front Wall at the bottom thereof. Means. is provided 155 for hingedly supporting the container II) so that it may swing from a horizontal position on the toilet seat II to a vertical position to the rear of the toilet seat Il. A roller i3 is rotatively supported Within the container I0 and supports a continuous web of toilet seats I 4 with the end toilet seat I4' of the web extending from the slot i2. Means is provided for feeding the web through the slot I2 and a clip I5 is mounted on the top of the front wall of the container i0 for holding the top end with the web extended across the front wall of the container Ill. Means is formed on` the clip for releasing the holding action of this clip, and means is formed within the container for cutting olf the extended toilet seat. s

The container I0 is substantially rectangular in shape and is formed at its bottom end with lugs I'I which are adapted to be pivotally supported upon lugs I8 formed on the rear portion of the seat II for pivotally supporting the container thereon. The container is formed with a cover Illa on its rear side which is hingedly supported at its top end by a hinge I9 so that it may be moved to the open position to replace the continuous web i4 when it has been completely used. An extension peg is formed on the top end of the cover Illa and is adapted to abut the Wall 2| to the rear of the container for holding the container in a vertical position to the rear of the toilet seat I I.

The roller I3 is rotatively supported between the bearings 22 attached to the side walls of the container I. One of the bearings 22 is formed with an open side 22a through which the end of the roller I3 may pass for permitting this roller `to be removed from the container I0 when it is desired to replace the continuous web I4. The webfextends downward over a roller 23 extending between the side walls `of the container I0. From the roller 23 the web Ill passes through a superimposed pair of said rollers 24 and 25. The lower roller 24 is fixedly supported between the side walls of the container III and has a portion24a extending through one of the side walls of the container lil and is formed with a handle 26 by which this roller may be rotated for feeding the end of the web through the slot I2. A means is formed upon the ends of the upper roller for resiliently urging this roller against the lower roller 24 and comprises blocks 2l formed on the ends of the roller 25 and engageable into vertical elongated slots 28 formed in the side walls of the container I ll. Expansion springs 29 operate between the top faces of the blocks 2l and the top faces o f the elongated slots 28 for urging the'blocks I ftk d 21 downwards to urge the roller 25 against the roller 24.

A block 3|] is mounted on the bottom wall of the container ID and is adapted to. support the extending portion of the web I4 for directing it through the slot l2 when the rollers 24' and 25 are rotated. At spaced positions the continuous web of toilet seats is formed with openings 3l through which the clip I5 is adapted to pass. The clip I5 comprises separate sections I5a pivotally connected together at one of their ends by a pin 32. A spring 33 operates between the adjacent faces of the sections I5a for urging these sections apart to hold them in position within the opening 3l. Adjacent the pivoted end of the sections I5a the clip I5 is formed with a ring 34 to which a cord 35 is secured. The cord 35 passes into the container I0 and is adapted to be wound upon a spool 36 attached to a shaft 31 rotatively supported between the side walls of the container I0.

A helical spring 38 has one of its ends 38a fixedly attached to a portion of the shaft 31 and the other of its ends 38h attached to the side wall of the container IIJ for urging the shaft 31 into a position in which the cord 35 will be wound upon the roller 35. The clip I5 and the string 35 pass through a tubular member 39 which extends into an opening 40 formed in the front wall of the container i0. When the clip I5 is urged into the tubular member 39 the sections I5a will be urged together against the action of the spring 33 to release the holding action of the clipl I5. This latter member comprises a means for releasing the holding action of the clip.

The spring 38 is stronger than the spring 33, and a means is provided for preventing the spring 38 from drawing the clip I5 into the tubular member 39 to compress the sections I5a and release the holding action, of the clip I5. This latter-mentioned means comprises a downwardly extending finger 4I attached to the top wall of the container I and formed with an opening 42 through which the cord 35 passes. A stop member 43 is attached to the cord 35 in front of the nger 4I for preventing the spring 38 from drawing the cord all the way into the container I0 and release the holding action of the clip I5.

The tubular member 39 is mounted u-pon one end of a rod 44 and the other end of this rod is provided with the meansv for cutting ofi" the extended toilet seat. The bottom end of the rod 44 is formed with a pin 45 which extends through an elongated slot 46 formed in one arm of a bellcrank 41 pivotally mounted upon a shaft 48 extending between the side walls of the container I0. A knife blade 49 is xedly attached to the bottom wall of the container I5 between the front wall thereof and the block 33. A complementary blade 5I) is slidably supported between the side walls of the container I9 and is formed with a cutout portion 50a into which the other arm of the bell-crank 41 is adapted to extend. This arm is formed with a slot 5I which engages a pin 52 extending between the cutout 50a so that when the rod 44 is moved toward the front wall of the casing I!) it will pivot the bell-crank 41 to urge the slidable knife blade 5|) downward to cut off the extended portion of the web of toilet seat covers I4.

The slidably mounted blade 50 is formed with an inclined bottom cutting edge 50h which is adapted to cooperate with the cutting edge on the knife blade 40. The slidable mounting of the blade 53 comprises dove-tailed members 53 formed on the ends of the blade and which are adapted to engage complementary dove-tailed grooves 54 formed in the side walls of the container I0. The upper ends of the grooves 54 are formed with enlarged portions 54a. into which the dovetailed members of the blade 5I] may be slipped.

A means is provided for urging the rod 44 towards the front wall of the container I for simultaneously releasing the holding action of the clip I5 and for cutting off the extended portion of the toilet seat web. This means comprises a cam 55 attached to a shaft 5B rotatively extended between the side walls. of the container Ill. A portion 56a of the shaft extends through one of the side walls of the container Ii) and is formed with a knob 51 by which the shaft 56 may be rotated for moving the cam 55 from its inoperative to its operative position.

In Fig. 9 a perspective of one of the toilet seat covers I4 is shown. At the front end the toilet seat cover I4 is formed with an outwardly extending portion l 4d which has the openings 3l through which the clip I5 is adapted to be passed. The opening in the toilet seat cover I4 is formed with inwardly extending portions I4b which are adapted to extend downward through the opening in the toilet seat II for holding the sanitary cover I4 in position thereon.

In Fig. 10 the toilet seat cover I4 is formed with a large central tongue Illbb which protrudes into the toilet bowl and acts as a flusher to remove the paper from the seat l I and discard the same.

The operation of this device is as follows:-

The handle 26 is rotated to extend the portion of the web I4 through the slot I2 and the clip I5 is pulled outwards to the bottom of the container lil where the sections I5a are urged together against the action of the spring 33 so that the outer ends of these sections may be passed through the opening 3I. Then the handle 25 is further rotated to completely extend the toilet seat cover I4 so that the spring 38 may urge the cord 35 back on to the roller 36 to move the clip I5 back to its normal position to extend the toilet seat across the front wall of the container I0.

When the clip I5 reaches its normal position the container Ill is pivoted from the vertical position to the horizontal position and the knob 51 is rotated to move the cam 55 from its inoperative to its operative position. When the cam 55 is moved to the operative position it will urge the rod 44 toward the front wall of the container IU to cause the tubular member 39 to move along the length of the sections I5a of the clip l5 to urge the sections together against the holding action of the spring 53 to release the holding action of this clip to disengage the front end of the toilet seat cover therefrom.

Simultaneously with the release of the holding action of the clip I5 the movement of the cam 55 will pivot the bell-crank 41 to urge the movable knife blade 50 downwards to engage the fixed knife blade 49 and cut the extended seat I4' from the web I4. After the cutting action has been completed the seat cover I4 will be entirely released from the container I0 and properly positioned upon the toilet seat II, after which the container I D may be again pivoted to the vertical position.

It is to be understood that the sanitary tissue covers may be made of any suitable texture or material, their shapes and sizes may be changed as desired, also that the device may be coin controlled by using the conventional slot mechanism which will lock or releaseroller I3 on which the sanitary tissue cover supply is wound.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be' understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modications coming within the scope of the invention as -defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent isz- 1. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of sai-d toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats oi from the web.

2. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said supporting of said container comprising downwardly extending lugs formed on the bottom wall of said container and which are pivotally attached to upwardly extending lugs formed on said toilet seat.

A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for hol-ding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said roller being removably supported in said container to permit it to be removed therefrom for replenishing the sup-ply of toilet seat covers.

4. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible fro-m said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the hol-ding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said means for feeding out the web comprising a pair of superimposed rollers through which the extended end of said web is adapted to pass, and means on the lower roller for rotating the same, and means on the upper roller for urging this roller against said lower roller to cause said rollers to extend the web when said lower roller is rotated.

5. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means fo-r feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the topvof the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said means for feeding out the web comprising a pair of superimposed rollers through which the extended end of said web is adapted to pass, and means on the lower roller for rotating the same, and means on the upper roller for urging this roller against said lower roller to cause said rollers to extend the web when said lower roller is rotated, said firstmentioned means comprising a handle attached to an extended portion of said lower roller.

6. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said means for feeding out the web comprising a` pair of superimposed rollers through which the extended end of said web is adapted to pass, and means on the lower roller for rotating the same, and means on the upper roller for urging this roller against said lower roller to cause said rollers to extend the web when said lower roller is rotated, said latter-mentioned means comprising blocks formed on the ends of said upper roller and engageable into elongated slots formed in the side walls of said container, and means operating between the top face of said blocks and the top end of said slot for moving said upper roller against said lower roller.

A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hin-gedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said means for feeding out the web comprising a pair of superimposed rollers through which the extended end of said web is adapted to pass, and means on the lower roller for rotating the same, and means on the upper roller for urging this roller against said lower roller to cause said rollers to extend the web when said lower roller is rotated, said lattermentioned means comprising blocks formed on the ends of said upper roller and engageable into elongated slots formed in the side walls of said container, and means operating between the top face of said blocks and the top end of said slot for moving said upper roller against said lower roller, comprising expansion springs having one of their ends abutting said blocks and the other of their ends abutting the top of said slots.

8. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said clip comprising separate sections pivotally connected together at one of their ends, a spring operating between the adjacent faces of said sections for urging said sections apart, a cord extending into said container and normally wound upon a roller supported upon a shaft, and means for urging said shaft into a position in which said cord will be wound thereon for holding said clip in a position in which it will hold said toilet seat cover extended across the front face of said container.

9. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting 'the extended toilet seats off from the web, said clip comprising separate sections pivotally connected together at one of their ends, a spring operating between the adjacent faces of said sections for urging said sections apart, a cord extending into said container and normally wound upon a roller supported upon a shaft, and means for urging said shaft into a position in which said cord will be wound thereon for holding said clip in a position in which it will hold said toilet seat cover ex- "tended across the front face of said container,

said means comprising a helical spring having one of its ends attached to said shaft and the other of its ends fixedly attached to a portion of said container so that when said cord is extended said spring will be tightened upon said shaft to urge the shaft into a position in which said cord will be wound upon said roller when said cord is released.

10. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container lto swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous Web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said clip comprising separate sections pivotally connected together at one of their ends, a spring operating between the adjacent faces of said sections for urging said sections apart, a cord extending into said container and normally wound upon a roller supported upon a shaft, and means for urging said shaft into a position in which said cord will be wound thereon for holding said clip in a position in which it will hold said toilet seat cover extended across the front face of said container, said means for releasing the holding action of said clip comprising a tubular member through which said cord passes and into which the pivoted end of said clip sections extend, a downwardly extending rod connected to said tubular member, and a cam for urging said rod toward the front wall of said container to move said tubular member along the outer sides of said clip sections to urge said clip sections together against the holding action of said spring to release the holding action of said clip.

11. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a size to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall atthe bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the topy end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said latter-mentioned means comprising a xed knife blade mounted below the extended end of said Web, a movable knife blade mounted above the extended end of said web and adapted to cooperate with said fixed knife blade for cutting off an extended toilet seat cover, and means for moving said movable knife blade towards said xed knife blade.

12. A toilet seat attachment to release sanitary tissue covers, comprising a container of a siZe to extend over a toilet seat and having a slot in the front wall at the bottom, means for hingedly supporting said container to swing from a horizontal position on said toilet seat to a vertical position to the rear of said toilet seat, a roller for supporting a continuous web of toilet seats with the end toilet seat of the web extendible from said slot, means for feeding out said web, a clip mounted on the top of the front wall of said container for holding the top end of a web extended across the front wall of said container, means for releasing the holding action of said clip, and means for cutting the extended toilet seats off from the web, said latter-mentioned means comprising a fixed knife blade mounted below the extended end of said web, a movable knife blade mounted above the extended end of said web and adapted to cooperate with said xed knife blade for cutting off an extended toilet seat cover, and means for moving said movable knife blade towards said fixed knife blade, said means comprising a rod mounted within said container, a bell crank pivotally mounted Within said container and having `one of its arms attached to one of the ends of said rod and having the other of its arms pivotally attached to a portion of said movable knife blade, and means for urging said rod forward to pivot said bell crank and move said movable knife blade towards said fixed knife blade.
