Abstract

The umbrella holding coat device is intended to provide users with coats that have an external umbrella pocket to store a wet umbrella within the coat. The device allows users to externally store their wet or damp umbrella when they arrive at home, office, school, or when entering an establishment. Further, the umbrella pocket provides users a location to store a wet or damp umbrella as well as allow it to dry without leaking or spilling water. To accomplish this, the device includes an umbrella pocket with multiple layers and functionalities. Furthermore, the device provides a central location for umbrella storage and negates the need to use umbrella canisters. Similar to other coats, the umbrella holding coat device may be stored in closets, coat racks, or similar locations after taking it off and thereby allow the umbrella pocket to protect and dry the umbrella.

Description

The current application claims a priority to the U.S. Provisional Patent application Ser. No. 63/184,358 filed on May 5, 2021.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present disclosure relates generally to apparel items. More specifically, the present disclosure describes coats having an externally attached storage pockets to store wet umbrellas.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Water-proof garments incorporate fabrics that are inherently, or have been treated to become, resistant to penetration by water and wetting. Umbrellas are also utilized to protect users from rain. Unfortunately, establishments typically have umbrella canisters that users are required to use to place their umbrella in to prevent water drips that patrons can slip and fall on and get injured.
An objective of the present invention is to provide users with coats that have an external umbrella pocket to store a wet umbrella within the coat. The present invention allows users to externally store their wet or damp umbrella when they arrive at home, office, school, or when entering an establishment. Further, the umbrella pocket provides users a location to store a wet or damp umbrella as well as allow it to dry without leaking or spilling water. To accomplish this, the present invention comprises an umbrella pocket with multiple layers and functionalities. Furthermore, the present invention provides a central location for umbrella storage and negates the need to use umbrella canisters. Similar to other coats, the present invention may be stored in closets, coat racks, or similar locations after taking it off and thereby allow the umbrella pocket to protect and dry the umbrella. The present invention preferably includes an umbrella, sized to be stored in the umbrella pocket but can also be designed to accommodate umbrellas of various sizes and dimensions.

DETAIL DESCRIPTIONS OF THE INVENTION

All illustrations of the drawings are for the purpose of describing selected versions of the present invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
In reference to FIG. 1 through FIG. 14, the present invention is an umbrella holding coat device. An objective of the umbrella holding coat device is to provide users with coats that have an external umbrella pocket to store a wet umbrella within the coat. In other words, the umbrella holding device allows users to externally store their wet or damp umbrella when they arrive at home, office, school, or when entering an establishment. Further, the present invention provides users a location to store a wet or damp umbrella as well as allow it to dry without leaking or spilling water. To accomplish this, the present invention comprises an umbrella pocket with multiple layers and functionalities. Furthermore, the present invention provides a central location for umbrella storage and negates the need to use umbrella canisters. Similar to other coats, the present invention may be stored in closets, coat racks, or similar locations after taking it off and thereby allow the umbrella pocket to protect and dry the umbrella. The present invention preferably includes an umbrella, sized to be stored in the umbrella pocket but can also be designed to accommodate umbrellas of various sizes and dimensions.
The following description is in reference to FIG. 1 through FIG. 14. According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention comprises a coat 1, an umbrella pocket 2, and an inner compartment 3. Preferably, the coat 1 is made of a comfortable fabric and provides coverage to a user's torso area. Further, the umbrella pocket 2 is mounted onto a planar surface of the coat 1, for ease of access and aesthetic appeal. For example, as seen in FIG. 1 through FIG. 6, the coat 1 may be a kids' coat having the umbrella pocket 2 diagonally installed on the back of the coat 1. Furthermore, the umbrella pocket 2 is operatively coupled to the coat 1 wherein the umbrella pocket facilitates storage and retrieval of a personal item. In other words, the user may store an umbrella 4 in the umbrella pocket 2 and pull out the umbrella 4 from the umbrella pocket 2 with ease. In the preferred embodiment, the umbrella pocket 2 preferably has a one-foot one-inch length and two-and-a-half-inch width diameter. However, the umbrella pocket 2 may comprise any other dimension, orientation, and may be positioned at any other location on the coat 1, as long as the objectives of the present invention are fulfilled.
The children's version is designed to encourage kids to want to wear the present invention not because it is cold or the umbrella will keep the rain off of them, but because they may pretend the umbrella to be their sword of protection from the rain. It should be however noted that the coat 1 may comprise any size, material, components, and arrangement of components that are known to one of ordinary skill in the art, as long as the intents of the present invention are not altered. In order to house the umbrella 4 within the umbrella pocket 2, the inner compartment 3 traverses into the umbrella pocket 2 from a first end 2 a of the umbrella pocket towards a second end 2 b of the umbrella pocket 2, wherein the first end 2 a is positioned opposite to the second end 2 b across the umbrella pocket 2. Accordingly, in the preferred embodiment, the inner compartment 2 is long enough to house majority of the body of the umbrella 4. In other words, the inner compartment 2 has a length and width that is configured to receive and store a normal sized umbrella.
In reference to FIG. 8 through FIG. 14, the coat 1 may also be adult-sized coats (e.g., trench coats, waist coats, etc.). In this embodiment, the umbrella pocket 2 may be positioned on its front left, right side, top portion, or bottom portion. Here, the umbrella pocket 2 is preferably vertically oriented. The umbrella pocket 2 of the trench coat 1 may be a foot long and 2.5 inches wide in diameter. The waist coat's umbrella pocket 2 may be 10 inches long and 2.5 inches wide in diameter. The umbrella pocket's 2 circumference is the same for trench coat and waist coat versions.
It is an aim of the present invention to provide an umbrella holding coat device with multiple functionalities. To accomplish this, the umbrella pocket 2 comprises a plurality of water management layers 5. Preferably, each of the plurality of water management layers 5 is concentrically positioned within the umbrella pocket 2, delineating the inner compartment 2. In other words, the plurality of water management layers 5 delineates the inner compartment 2 and prevents water from seeping through the umbrella pocket 2 into the coat 1. As seen in FIG. 7, the plurality of water management layers 5 comprises a first layer 6, a second layer 7, and a third layer 8, wherein each layer has a specific functionality. Preferably, the first layer 6, the second layer 7, and the third layer 8 are arranged in such a way that they delineate a shape of the inner compartment 3.
According to the preferred embodiment, the first layer 6 is laterally and detachably mounted within the umbrella pocket 2. Preferably, the first layer 6 is water-proof. More specifically, the first layer 6 is a thin solid sheet of plastic that is installed in the umbrella pocket 2. In other words, the first layer 6 serves as the outer most layer of protection to prevent water from seeping out of the umbrella pocket 2 and into the coat and/or onto the nearby floor. In the preferred embodiment, the second layer 7 is laterally and detachably mounted to the first layer 6 opposite to the umbrella pocket 2. Preferably, the second layer 7 is water absorbing. More specifically, the second layer 7 is a sponge-like material that absorbs water from wet umbrellas when positioned within the umbrella pocket 2 after use. The second layer 7 is preferably removable to allow it to be replaced when worn-down, molded, damaged, etc. Replacement second layers may be provided to users. Preferably, the second layer 7 is made of sponge. However, the second layer 7 may comprise any absorbent and flexible material that may be known to one of ordinary skill in the art, as long as the intents of the present invention are not altered. Continuing with the preferred embodiment, the third layer 8 is laterally and detachably mounted to the second layer 7 opposite to the first layer 6. Further, the present invention comprises a plurality of holes 9, wherein the plurality of holes 9 laterally traverses the third layer 8. In other words, the third layer 8 is a thin sheet of plastic that has a plurality of holes 9 to thereby allow water to seep through to the second layer 7 (i.e., the sponge-like material) to be absorbed. Since the third layer 8 is in contact with the umbrella, the third layer 8 is puncture resistant to resist puncture from an umbrella tip. To that end, the present invention may comprise a reinforcement layer 10, wherein the reinforcement layer 10 is centrally and normally attached onto the third layer 8, opposite to the second layer 7. Accordingly, the first layer 6 and the third layer 8 comprise a thin sheet of plastic. However, the first layer 6 and the third layer 8 may comprise any other material, as long as the intents of the present invention are not altered. Furthermore, according to the preferred embodiment, the present invention may be washed or dry-cleaned when the second layer 7 is removed.
It is an aim of the present invention to keep the different layers intact during operation of the device. To that end, the present invention comprises at least one first fastener 11, wherein the at least one first fastener 11 is operably integrated between the plurality of water management layers 5 and the coat 1. This is so that operating the first fastener 11 enables selectively removing the plurality of water management layers 5. In other words, the at least one first fastener 11 holds the plurality of water management layers 5 along the inner compartment 2, when the umbrella 4 is being pulled out of the umbrella pocket 2. Preferably, the first fastener 11 is a hook and loop attachment that enables selectively attaching and detaching the plurality of water management layers 5 to the fabric of the coat 1. However, the first fastener 11 may comprise any other fastening technique that are known to one of ordinary skill in the art, as long as the objectives of the present invention are fulfilled. Examples of such fasteners include, but are not limited to snap fasteners, magnetic clips, buttons etc.
Continuing with the preferred embodiment, the present invention comprises a second fastener 12, wherein the second fastener 12 is operably adjacent the first end 2 a of the umbrella pocket 2. This is so that the second fastener 12 may selectively cover the inner compartment 3. In other words, when the present invention is not being used for holding an umbrella, the inside of the pocket or the inner compartment 3 may be covered using the second fastener 12. More specifically, the umbrella pocket 2 may be closed and the coat folded for storage purposes, when the present invention is not being used. Preferably, the second fastener 12 is a zipper attached at the first end 2 a or opening end of the umbrella pocket 2. However, the second fastener 12 may comprise any other fastening mechanisms that are known to one of ordinary skill in the art, as long as the intents of the present invention are not altered.
In reference to FIG. 1 through FIG. 6, the umbrella pocket 2 is positioned on a rear surface 1 a of the coat 1, and the umbrella pocket 2 is angularly offset along a length 1 b of the coat 1. In other words, as seen in FIG. 1 through FIG. 6, the present invention may be a kids' coat having the umbrella pocket 2 diagonally installed on the back of the coat 1. This children's version is designed to encourage kids to want to wear the present invention not because it is cold or the umbrella will keep the rain off of them, but because to them it will be their sword (umbrella) of protection from the rain. In reference to FIG. 8 through FIG. 14, the umbrella pocket 2 is positioned on a front surface 1 c of the coat 1 and the umbrella pocket 2 is oriented parallel along a length 1 d of the coat 1.
Thus, the present invention assists the average person by limiting the responsibility of remembering (on a rainy day) where they have placed their umbrella. The present invention is beneficial to kids and teachers that attend school on rainy days. For example, in most classrooms and hallways of schools, floors can become slick because of wet umbrellas. The present invention allows kids and teachers to walk through hallways and classrooms without dripping water from their umbrellas and thereby avoid slippery accidents or falls due to a wet floor from leaking umbrellas. Middle and high school students can put the present invention in their school lockers and not damage books and other items that are kept in their lockers. In the same vein, the present invention can assist people when shopping. In supermarkets, for example, leaking umbrellas can lead to slip-and-fall lawsuits, but with the present invention the umbrella can be inserted into the umbrella pocket prior to entering the establishment and thereby avoid leaking water onto the floor. Therefore, the present invention not only provides the user protection from the rain but also those persons located in close proximity to the user.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. An umbrella holding coat device, comprising:

a coat;

an umbrella pocket;

an inner compartment;

a plurality of water management layers;

the umbrella pocket being mounted onto a planar surface of the coat;

the inner compartment traversing into the umbrella pocket from a first end of the umbrella pocket towards a second end of the umbrella pocket, wherein the first end is positioned opposite to the second end across the umbrella pocket;

each of the plurality of water management layers being concentrically positioned within the umbrella pocket, delineating the inner compartment; and

the umbrella pocket being operatively coupled to the coat wherein the umbrella pocket facilitates storage and retrieval of a personal item.

2. The umbrella holding coat device of claim 1, comprising:

the plurality of water management layers comprising a first layer, a second layer, and a third layer;

the first layer being laterally and detachably mounted within the umbrella pocket;

the first layer, the second layer, and the third layer together delineating a shape of the inner compartment;

the second layer being laterally and detachably mounted to the first layer, opposite to the umbrella pocket; and

the third layer being laterally and detachably mounted the second layer, opposite to the first layer.

3. The umbrella holding coat device of claim 2, comprising:

a plurality of holes;

the plurality of holes laterally traversing through the third layer.

4. The umbrella holding coat device of claim 2, wherein the first layer being water-proof.

5. The umbrella holding coat device of claim 2, wherein the second layer being water absorbing.

6. The umbrella holding coat device of claim 2, wherein the third layer being in contact with the umbrella.

7. The umbrella holding device of claim 2, comprising:

a reinforcement layer;

the reinforcement layer being terminally connected to the third layer.

8. The umbrella holding device of claim 2, wherein the third layer being puncture resistant.

9. The umbrella holding device of claim 2, wherein the first layer and the third layer each being composed of a thin sheet of plastic.

10. The umbrella holding device of claim 2, wherein the second layer being composed of a spongy material.

11. The umbrella holding device of claim 1, comprising;

at least one first fastener;

the at least one first fastener being operably integrated between the umbrella pocket and the coat, such that operating the first fastener enables selectively removing the umbrella pocket; and

the first fastener holding the plurality of water management layers along the inner compartment, when the umbrella is being pulled out of the umbrella pocket.

12. The umbrella holding device of claim 1, comprising:

a second fastener; and

the second fastener being operably integrated adjacent the first end of the umbrella pocket, such that operating the second fastener selectively covers the inner compartment.

13. The umbrella holding device of claim 1, wherein the umbrella pocket being positioned on a rear surface of the coat.

14. The umbrella holding device of claim 13, wherein the umbrella pocketing being angularly offset along a length of the coat.

15. The umbrella holding device of claim 1, wherein the umbrella pocket being positioned on a front surface of the coat.

16. The umbrella holding device of claim 15, wherein the umbrella pocket being oriented parallel along a length of the coat.
