Abstract

This disclosure is in regards to a baby's crawler garment and the method of making the garment which is a pair of leg warmers comprised of tubular leg portions which are formed with a predetermined design made of silicone gel, and patterned throughout, on the surface of the leg warmer, forming an anti-skid surface and preventing a crawling baby from sliding or slipping. The tubular leg portions, being stretchy and snug fitting around the leg from the ankle to above the knee. Also a silicone strip will be placed on inside of the leg warmer's upper elastic band leg portion to prevent slipping or movement of the leg warmer while crawling.

  • Not Applicable
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention relates to a garment for use by crawling babies that ensures comfort and safety while crawling, and to the method of making such garment.
  • The act of learning to crawl is an important developmental milestone. It is a difficult task to master and can be a painful experience for the baby. Tile, wood, and linoleum floors increase the chance of difficulties crawling.
  • Knees slipping can cause the baby to fall, and excessive, repetitive pressure on the knees can cause pain and bruising to the knees.
  • Even after the baby is upright and walking, many still use their new found skill of crawling as a way to safely go up and down the stairs; a slip of the knee can cause a baby to fall forward, banging their face on the stair, or cause them to fall backwards down the stairs.
  • The leg warmers are machine washable and can be worn over clothes or on bare legs. Therefore, it would be advantageous to provide a garment that is versatile, convenient, and economical to use, while providing improved safety and comfort.
  • Some efforts in prior art to address the needs of crawling babies have been attempted, but fail to fully meet the needs of not only the baby, but the caregiver as well. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,845,778 to Peterson disclose a pair pants for crawling with a design embossed on the knee providing a non-slip surface. U.S. Pat. No. 6,343,383 to Madorma-Williams discloses a pair of crawling training pants providing a handle to the back portion allowing an adult to support the child's body weight. U.S. Pat. No. 4,651,354 to Petrey discloses a foot garment with a non-skid material applied to soles.
  • While these efforts do provide some improved safety, they lack the comparable convenience, affordability, efficacy, or practicality.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention concerns a pair of baby leg warmers for crawling babies, wherein each leg warmer has a non-slip decorative pattern attached to the surface throughout both front and back. The non-slip decorative pattern will be formed by applying silicone gel, which will form a slightly raised non-slip surface to the leg warmers. The non-slip pattern will prohibit sliding or slipping of the crawling baby's leg, thus preventing falls and injuries. The upper elasticized band of each leg warmer will have a silicone gel strip applied to the inner circumference, preventing the warmer from moving or slipping down the baby's leg while crawling.
  • The following drawings will illustrate the features of the invention, however the decorative pattern is for illustration only and can vary.
  • THE FIGURE DESCRIPTIONS
  • FIG. 1 is a side elevated view of the leg warmers embodying the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a front view of the invention.
  • FIG. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of FIG. 2
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a pair of leg warmers 11 for use by crawling babies, having leg portions 12 and 13. It will be understood that the leg warmers can be formed in any conventional manner. The leg warmers of this invention are sized in accordance to a baby in their crawling stage.
  • To prevent a baby from sliding, slipping, or falling while crawling, there is a non-slip decorative pattern 14 formed with a silicone gel throughout the surface of the leg warmers on both front and back, forming slightly raised characters 14. The material applied, provides a non-slip and anti-skid, gripping surface.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a front view of the leg warmer with the non-slip slightly raised characters 14. A sectional view is indicated for FIG. 3.
  • FIG. 3 is a sectional view of FIG. 1, illustrating the slightly raised non-slip characters 14 applied to the outside surface and a silicone strip 15 applied along the entire circumference of the upper, inner elasticized band to prevent the leg warmer from moving or sliding down the baby's leg while crawling.
  • The above described leg warmers can be manufactured from many different materials and can vary in colors and patterns. A machine washable, natural fabric, such as cotton, combined with either nylon or polyester and spandex is a suitable choice for the leg warmers described. The color of the non-slip characters can be in a variety of styles and colors.

Claims (2)

1. Leg warmers for crawling babies comprising
a pair of leg warmers having a tubular shape, which are stretchy and snug fitting around each leg, covering each leg from the ankle up to two to three inches above the baby's knee, an anti-skid surface applied in a predetermined design, patterned throughout, on the surface of the leg warmer on both front and back, with said anti-skid surface applied by means of silicone gel heat application to form a slightly raised anti-slip surface to prohibit the baby's legs from sliding and prevent falls while crawling.
2. The leg warmers as recited in claim 1, further comprising an elasticized band on the top and bottom portion of the leg warmers, wherein a silicone strip is heat applied to the inside circumference of the elasticized band on the top of the leg warmer, preventing slipping or movement of the leg warmer during crawling.
