This invention relates to wearing apparel and particularly to what may be termed a combined corset and bras'siere, the object being to provide an efficient and pleasing construction which when in use will present an open back and at the same time means for properly brassiere at the front.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a combined corset and brassiere where'- in elastic members are arranged at the back at'or below the waistline and positioned to give the desired pull on the brassiere to secure the desired fit and at the same time to. secure more or less constriction on the diaphragm while the shoulder straps give an uplift to the breasts.

An additional object, more specifically, is to provide a combined corset and brassiere wherein an open back is provided, the structure including a V-shaped elastic arrangement principally below the waistline and confined to the back panel structure, but acting on the sides of the brassiere and on the shoulder straps to secure a snug fitting action to the brassiere as well as an uplifting action tothe breasts.

A still further object of the invention is to providela combined corset and brassiere wherein Y elastic. members are provided at the sides of the corset to secure a' desiredconstriction of the hip portion of the wearer, and a V-shaped elastic structure at the rear acting on the brassiere to produce an efficient action thereon .without covering any part of the back above the waist me.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals; 1 indicates a rear panel which consists of a lower inelastic section 2, and an upper elastic section 3. The front is formed preferably with an inner panel 4 of inelastic or substantially inelastic material extending from the brassiere 5 down to the bottom of the garment.

Side panels 6 and 7 are provided, said side panels being elastic preferably stretchable circumtion, though ordinarily the give of the panels 6 supporting a ferentially. Suitable hose supporters 8 are conlower part of the garment held in proper posiand '7 not only'constricts the flesh along the hip line but yields sufliciently to give a certain roundness, as shown in Figure 1, whereby the garment will not move upwardly or downwardly but will remain in a given position with the circumferential elastic band 9 arranged at the waistline.

The brassiere 5 is formed with breast pockets 10 and 11, said breast pockets merging into the side panels 12 and 13, which in turnmerge into the rear triangular shaped panels 14-and 15'. The. panels 12 to 15 are preferably of inelastic material and are stitched together so as'to' provide side and rear panel sections functioning to transmit strain to the rear part of the breast This strain is produced by the elasticmembers 16 and 17' which form partQof the pockets.

While the waistline is preferably atthe' point'21 under some circumstances it might be arranged at the waistline or even slightly above'the same, but it must be arranged appreciably low on the garment in order to permit. the elastic members 16 and 17 to give their respective pullsto cause the side panels 12 tol5 tosnugly fit the body of the wearer "and also to present a proper anchor 4 for the shoulder straps 22 and 23. These shoulder straps are each provided with an elastic portion 24 so that a yielding or continuous tension is provided on the straps whereby they will remain on the shoulders and also have a continuous' tendency to produce an uplift on the breast pockets 10 and 11. In this way the brassiere functions to more or less draw in the parts of the body at oradjacent the diaphragm and to give a desired uplift through the tension of the panels 12 to 15, as well as through the shoulder straps 22 and 23.

When wearing an evening gown the structure Y disengageable fasteners at the center of the elastic structure constitute means for making it I step into the garment and pull the same upwardly into the correct position. Afterwards these fasteners are caused to function and when engaged willmaintain the elastic structure under tensionfor causing the desired molding andfrestricting of the body at and adjacent the diaphragm, while the shoulder straps produce the proper support and uplifting action on the busts.

I claim: 3

1. A step-in foundation garmentformed with a brassiere and corset body formed so that the rear and sides extend from the waist-line to a point below the hip-line of the person wearing the garment, said brassire having breast pockets merging at the sides into'side panels, and rearwardlyeextending flaps secured to said side panels, -said flaps being positioned rearwardly ofra: line drawn down the center of the side of thergarmenarsaid corset body having substantial-ly,:inelastic front and rear panels and a pair of elastic side panels, said front panel extending from, the bottom of the. garment to a point above thewaist-linawhile the side panels extendrfrom the1waist-line to'the bottom of the garment, with the rear panel-extending fromtlie bottom of the garment: to near the waist-line, said rear panel atthe-toprhaving aV-shaped notch therein and an elastic section fitting into the said V-shaped notch-saidelasticsection being formed of a pair of=-elastie members extending substantially at right-angles'to each other and stretchable at substantially right angles to each other, said elastic. members. at the upperend being connected to said rearwardly-extending flaps and at the lowerendibeing disengageably secured together, whereby when thedisengageably secured means haverbeenreleased the garment may be readily pulled overthe legs andhips to a wearing position.

disengageable fastening means for securing the respective parts of the elastic structure together, and a brassiere secured to the upper edge of said corset body, said brassiere having flaps at the rear secured to the respective upper ends of said elastic structure whereby when the elastic structure is functioning, a strain will be brought upon the lower part of the brassiere to constrict the front of the body of the person wearing the garment and'whenthe elastic structure is: open the device may be readily drawn over the. legs and hips to functioning position.

I 3; A step-in garment of the character described including a brassiere and a corset body havingelastic side' members extending from the brassiere to the bottom of the garment, with an inelastic rear panel extending from the bottom of the garment to approximately the waist-line and provided with a V-shaped notch at the top, the point of the notch extending downwardly, said notch being positioned between and extending from near thewa-ist-line to near the hip-line, and a v-shaped elastic structure formed in two parts arranged in said notch, with one end ofeach part extending above said notch, said V-shaped elastic structure at the center of the rear of the garment being provided with disengageable fastening means for securing the parts of the elastic structure together, and a brassire secured to the upper edge of said corset body, said brassiere having flaps at the rear secured to the respective upper ends of the V-shapedelastic structure whereby when the V-shaped elastic structure is functioning a resilient action will be exerted upon the lower part of the brassiere and.

4. A step-in foundation garment of the" character described including a brassire and a corset body having a pair of side elastic panels-yielding to permit the garment to be pulled upwardly over the hips to operative'position andalso to cause a constriction of the hips, a rear inelastic panel extending from a point below the hip-line of the person wearing the garment to a point adjacent the waist-line, said rear panel having a notch in the upper part extending from the upper edge downwardly, said brassiere having rearwardly projecting extensions positionedsubstantially at the waist line, and elastic members secured to said rear panel at the side edges of said notch, said elastic members being secured to said extensions and'presenting elongations thereof whereby the elastic members will permit a diagonal yielding action in respect to the brassiere.
