(01. 40158) This invention relates to corner holders" or mounting devices of the type composed of sheet material gummed on one side, and having one or more slots or slits adapted to engage the corner portion of a card, picture or the like for retaining it in position on a mount to which the corner holder itself is adhesively secured. The present invention is concerned with producing such corner holders in multiple in sheet form for the sake of economy in manufacture and convenience in use. It consists in certain features of construction and arrangement as herein shown and described, and as indicated by the claims.

Figure 1 is a plan or face view of a relatively small sheet of corner holders made in accordance with this invention.

Figure 2 is a face view of one of the corner holders detached from the sheet.

Figure 3 is a face view of one of the corner holders in use as applied for mounting a picture card, of which a fragment is shown.

For purposes of illustration, I have chosen a type of corner heretofore shown and described in my Patent No. 1,811,116, issued June 23, 1931,

but in Figure 1 a group of such devices is shown as formed in a single sheet, 1, of fibrous material, such as paper, which may be understood to be gummed on its under side. The outlines of the individual corner holders, 2, are partially cut through the sheet, 1, as indicated at 3, but relatively short portions of said outlines indicated in the drawing at 4, are left unsevered for holding the devices, 2, in the sheet. These short frangible portions, 4, are broken when it is desired to remove one of the holders, 2, from the sheet for use.

As seen in Figure 2, each corner holder of the type chosen for illustration is in the form of a right-angle triangle, and includes a slit, 5, parallel to its hypotenuse and spaced therefrom, and a shorter parallel slit, 6. As seen in Figure 3, the corner portion of the card or picture, '7, is inserted through the slits, 5 and 6, so that when the gummed under surface of the holder, 2, is applied adhesively to the mount, 8, the picture will be secured in place thereon, as desired. The particular type of holder shown in the drawing includes slightly depressed areas, 9, 9, between the slots, 5 and 6, which provide some additional friction against the surface of the picture, 'I. However, the special feature to be noted in Figure 3 is that the short frangible portions, 4, of the outline of the corner holder, 2, are so arranged that when the device is placed in use, as shown in this figure, these-portions, 4, are disposed under thearea: of vthe picture or card, '7, so-that any rag gedness or unevennessof these portions. is com pletely hidden, and ,only I the cleanly. severed outlines, 3, of the device are seen.

By thus preparing corner holders in multiple lots, arranged in sheet form, it will be evident that they may be manufactured and packaged without any special apparatus or operation for counting them, since each sheet will contain a 655i uniform number, and in such sheet form they may be packed flatly without bunching or bulging the container, as they might do if completely separated as individual corner holders. And from the standpoint of the user, the devices are its in a form which is easily handled, and in which they will not become scattered or easily lost.

As shown in Figure 1, the right triangular form of the particular corner holder chosen for illustration permits of economical arrangement of 3-5 the devices in rows, in which the hypotenuses of the triangular devices are arranged in alignment, while the apices of the triangles of one row are nested with or interposed between those of the next row.

It will be understood, however, that corner holders of other shapes may also be arranged in multiples in sheet form, in accordance with this invention, and that other variations and modifications of the details may be made without de- 86 parting from the spirit and scope of the invention as the same is not limited to the particular form as herein shown and described, except in so far as indicated by the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A sheet of fibrous material gummed on one side and comprising a plurality of corner holders each having a slit to engage the corner of a picture, card or the like to be mounted, each of said holders having its marginal outlines partly cut through the sheet leaving relatively short frangible portions retaining the holder in the sheet, said frangible portions being so located in relation to the slits that they will be covered by the card or picture when the corner holder is in service.

A sheet of fibrous material gummed on on side and comprising a plurality of corner hold-- ers each adapted to engage the corner of a card, picture or the like to be mounted, and each having its marginal outlines partly cut through the sheet leaving frangibleportions for retaining the holder in place, the portion of the outline of each corner holder which will be exposed when the device is in service being wholly severed, and the in service the broken portions of the outline covered by the card or picture.
