Description

ICE BAG Filed March 22, 1932 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented June 26, 1934 UNITED STATES ATEN'F OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to ice bags, and particularly to an ice bag intended and adapted for use upon the face and head.
An object of this invention is to provide an ice bag structure which can be used to make cold applications to various parts of the face to alleviate pain, to relieve congestion, to contract sagging muscles in the face and in fact for any other purpose that may be desired, and which will fit properly to the contour of the face and will be held in place as applied.
Another object is to provide an ice bag so constructed that securement is made around the head and portions thereof fit over the ears to positively retain the adjusted fitting of the ice bag portion and preclude the possibility of slipping or readjustment.
Still another object is to provide a structure of this character which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and which can be applied and worn without the slightest discomfort by a person in bed, or by a person who is up and active, the retaining means holding the bag in the desired fitting and adjustment irrespective of movement of the wearer.
With the above and other objects in view which will be apparent to those skilled in the art, my invention includes certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which 30 will be hereinafter set forth in connection with the drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing an ice bag constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating one manner of application and use.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the manner of fitting and applying the ice bag.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 disclosing another fitting for use.
With the structure as illustrated, the bag portion 1 is made and shaped to conform particularly to the forehead and the lower jaw or chin portions of the wearer, but the shape of the bag portion might be varied to particularly form and adapt the same to the contour of any portion of the head, and with the particular form here illustrated it is possible to fit and adjust the device to make cold applications over the region of the eyes, at the back of the head, adjacent 7 tension securing bands 4 and 5 which are adapted to be carried around the head and be secured by the buckle 6 at a point substantially opposite the fitting of the ice bag portion 1. By providing a plurality of openings 7 in the extension band 5, the structure can be adjusted for each individual user.
While the device as set forth can be fitted to apply the ice bag portion 2 on various parts of the head, the fitting will not be held as the bands 4 and 5 will slip and the ice bag portion will be displaced from the desired fitting. With this in mind, I provide the openings 8 and 9 in the extension bands 4 and 5 extending transversely, and the openings 11 and 12 in these bands extending longitudinally. With these openings, when the ice bag is fitted around the forehead or other similar portions of the head, the ears will be placed through openings 8 and 9 and in consequence the extension bands 4 and 5 will be held against slipping and the ice bag portion 1 will be retained in the desired adjustment and fitting. When the parts are fitted as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, the ears will be placed through the openings 11 and 12 and in this fitting the device will be held against shifting or moving. This ice bag structure can be made up of any desired and suitable material, with the ice bag portion 1 constructed or treated to hold ice, and in fact the bag portion 1 can be made after the manner of a hot water bag to contain hot liquid for hot applications, as well as ice for cold applications.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have I provided an ice bag structure which can be used most effectively and efiiciently to make cold, or hot, applications to various portions of the face and head, and while I have herein shown and described only certain specific embodiments and have set forth only certain specific variations, it will be appreciated that many changes and modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
0nd set of elongated openings formed therethrough adjacent to the first set and extending transversely of the bands, each of said openings being restricted to be of smaller size than the flap of the ear to thus substantially lit and engage at its marginal edges with the base of the ear when the bands are fitted in place to thus positively hold upon the ear and retain the rounded surface of the ice bag portion against shifting from rounded surfaces of the head.
