KNOGKDOWN PLAYHoUsE Application filed June 11, 193.0. Serial No. 460,339.
This invention relates to a knockdown playhouse of that class which is intended to be erected against the side of a garage or house, and which may be readily taken apart for storage and shipment, but which will afi'ord a substantial playhouse for small children.
The object of the invention is to provide a knockdown playhouse which is'light in weight, simple of construction containing few parts and readily attached to the side of a building in a detachable manner.
Another object being to provide means whereby the playhouse may be closed in as protection from the weather, and means whereby the children are protected from the ground.
Still another object being to provide means whereby the playhouse is provided with sleeping and toilet facilities.
A further object being to provide novel construction whereby the several parts may be packed for storage or shipment, and erected quickly and in a simple manner.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in. certain novel construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views, but it is understood that slight changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings z- Figure 1 is a top plan view, showing the playhouse as attached to the side of a gara e.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same, but with the side curtains removed.
Figure 3 shows an end View of the same, but with the front curtain in place. V
Figure 4 is a partial detail view of one of the lower corner joints.
Figure 5 is a partial detail view of one of the upper corner joints.
Figure 6 is a partial detail view of the flooring.
a0 Referring to the drawings The side of a building such as a garage is indicated by the numeral 10,'and the ground by the numeral 11.
The playhouse comprises the cross sills 12 and 18, and thefrontsill which is made up of two parts 14 and 15; the rear ends of the cross sills 12 and 18 are attached to the side of the garage by. the two part hinges16 which may be dissembled by the removah of the pin 17, thus leaving one part attached to (W the garage and the other part attached to the sill, when it is desired to removethe play house from the building.
The front ends of the sills 12 are notched as at 18 to receive a corresponding notched end-19 ofthe sills l4 and 15; while the front end of the sill 13 is secured to the upright center post 20 by a hinge 21'.
The two corner posts 22 and the center post 20 are each provided with a pointed stake 23 which is adapted to be passed through a hole formed in the ends of the sills 12, 14 and 15 and pressed into the ground, thus securing the sills together and to the ground.
The upper ends of said posts 20 and 22 are also provided with studs 24 which are threaded for the nuts 25; and upon them are mounted the two front plates 26 and 27 which are notched together and provided with registering holes for the studs 24; and the end cross plates 28 are also notched at their front ends as at 29 and are assembled in a similar manner to the front plates 26 and 27 by the studs 24 and on the posts 22.
The rear ends of the plates 28 and center cross member 30 are secured in a detachable manner to the side 10 of the garage by the two part hinges 31; and the front ,end of the cross member 30 is secured to the center post 20 in a similar manner by a hinge 32.
The roof 33 which may be made of some suitable material such as wall board or prepared roofing is secured upon the roof rafters 34 (see Figure 5) and brace 35 which are secured to the plates 28 and cross member 30; and said roof 33 is provided with holes for the passage of the studs 24, and the washers 36 are placed thereon and all held together by the nuts 25.
The floor is composed of the cross members 37 and the slats 38; the ends of which rest upon the sills l2 and 13.
The ends and side or front of the house may be provided with the curtains 39, and to the side 10 of the building are detachablv secured a bunk 4:0, tool box 41, wash stand and tank 42 and toilet 4:3 or otherv articles as desired.
There is also attached to the cross plate or brace 35 a swing 44 or other device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is.
A knock-down play-house designed to be detachably secured to the side of a building and in combination with front and ends sills and upright posts detachably secured together and to said building, of a unit roof comprising ends formed of cross plates having their inner ends detachably secured to the building, vertical braces secured thereto adjacent the building, roof rafters formed with inclined upper edges and secured to said cross plates and braces, a roof secured thereon with its ends and front extending beyond said cross plates, threaded studs mounted in the upper ends of the upright posts extending through said cross plates and said roof and nuts and washers secured thereon above and in contact with said roof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MARTHA MILLARD REYNOLDS.
