This invention relates to an improvement in stra watches and the like, characterized by their provision with straps of various kinds and commonly referred to as Wrist '5 watches, though not so limited.
One of the main objects of my present invention is to provide an attractive wrist watch or the like, having strong, reliable and y low-cost means for the attachment of fastening-straps.
` A further object of my invention is to provide a wrist watch or the like with strapattaching means of such character as will serve 4also as a reinforcement for the case,
` 55 and thus minimize the distortion or breakage of the latter under strains imposed by a strap.
With the above and other objects in View, as will appear from the following, my invention consists in a wrist watch or the like having certain features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.

The particular wrist watch herein chosen for the illustration of my invention consists in a cup-shaped sheet-metal front case-member, generally designated by the numeral 15,
and a complementary cup-shaped backv caseif member, generally' designated by the numeral 16, and adapted to telescopically fit within the front case-member 15 aforesaid, as will hereinafter appear.
The front case-member 15 is struck up to form two complementary end-walls 17-17 and complementaryside-walls 18-18 respectively rearwardly projecting from a frontwall 19 which latter has its central portion cut away to provide a sight-opening 20, through which 'the hands of the watch maybe observed. The front-wall 19, just referred to, is also struck up to form a forwardlyand inwardly-offset retaining-flange 21 surrounding the said sight-opening 2O and adapt-ed to cooperate with an inner crystal-retaining ring 22 in retaining a concavo-convex crystal 23 in place.
Each of the end-walls 17-17 of the front case-member 15 is provided with two rectangular openings or perforations 24-24 respectively located' adjacent its opposite ends and serving to provide for the outward passage of the offsetting parallel side-arms 25--25 of a U-sha'ped sheet-metal strap-yoke, generally designated by the numeral. 26 and including,also, an integral cross-reach 27 eX- tending between and connecting the spacedapart side-arms 254-25 just referred to, and notched in its rear edge, as at 27L for the purpose as will hereinafter appear'.
The strap-yokes 26 are mounted in the front case-member 15 by passing their respective side-arms 25-25 outwardly through the openings 24'-24 until the cross-reach 27 of the given said yoke is seated against the inner face of the adjacent end-wall 17, in which position it serves to stiften and reinforce the said end-wall and provides a'secure anchorage for a strap, despite the fact that the said end-walls may be of relatively-light material. f
Installed between the respective side-arms 25-25 of each of thestrap-yoke 26 is a cylindrical strap-bar 28 provided at its opposite ends respectively with trunnions Q9-29 eX- tending into suitable perforations 30, one of which is formed in each of the side-arms 25--25 of each of the strap-yokes 26.
Telescopically fitting within the front ease-member 15 is the cup-shaped back casemeniber 16 already referred to, which consists of a back-wall 31, complementary end-walls 32-32 and complementary side-walls 33-33- The end-walls 32-32 and the side-walls 33-33 of the case-member 16 respectively complement the end-walls 17-17 and the side-walls 18-18 of the case-member 15, within which they interfit.
Each of the opposite end-walls 32-32 of the back case-member 16 extends into and seats in the notch 27 of its complementary strap-yoke Q6 and is provided with two clearance-notches 34--34 respectively located adjacent its opposite ends and serving to clear the arms E25-25 and the portions of the cross-reach 27 adjacent thereto of the adjacent one of the said strap-yokes.
Housed within the case formed by the coinplementary front and back case- members 15 and 16 is a watch-movement of any approved type and requiring no detailed description, further than to state that it includes complementary front and back movement- plates 35 and 36, connected together by one or more pillars 3T, as shown in Fig. 4, and housing bet-ween them the usual time-train represented by a gear-wheel 38.
Preferably, the front movement-plate 35 will be so proportioned as to bear against the inner face of the cross-reach 27 of one or both of the strap-yokes 26, so as to positively prevent the inward displacement of the latter, though it is obvious that the movement-plate need not necessarily be employed for this purpose.
In the construction herein shown, I employ a strap-bar 28 extending between the sidearms of each of the strap-yokes 26, but I wish to have it understood that in the event of the employment of metallic straps, it is feasible to omit the strap-bar 28 and connect the respective opposite ends of the metal strap directly to the said side-arms 25.
By employing a substantially U-shaped strap-yoke which is secured to the ease by passing its side-arms outwardly through the same, I not only provide strap-attaching means which will effectuallv resist strains imposed upon itwithout being pulled free from the said case, but I also provide for preventing the distortion of the case as an incident to the strains referred to.
I am well aware that heretofore U-shaped strap-yokes have been employed in wrist watches but such yokes have usually been applied by eXtendi ng their side-arms inwardly through the case and riveting the said side-arms over upon the interior of the latter, with the result that not only were the relatively-weak riveted-over portions directly subjected to the draft imposed by the strap, but also the case was subjected to distortion and possible breakage.
It will be understood by those skilled in the art that my invention may assume varied physical forms without departing from my inventive concept, and I, therefore, do not limit myself to the specific embodiment herein chosen for illustration, but only as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a` strap watch or the like, the combination with a case provided with spacedapart openings; of a U-shaped strap-yoke having its cross-reach located within the said case and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly from the interior of the said case through the said spaced-apart openings therein.
2. In a strap watch or the like, the combination with a case provided in its edge with spaced-apart openings; of a U-shaped strapyoke having its cross-reach located within the said case and having its spaced-apart.

5. In a. strap watch or the like, the combination with a case provided with spaced- .i
apart openings; of a one-piece U-shaped strap-yoke having its cross-reach located within the said case and having its spacedapart Side-arms extending outwardly from the interior of the said case through the saidc spaced-apart openings therein; and a strapbar located outside of the said case and extending between the projecting side-arms of the said one-piece strap-yoke.
6. In a strap watch and the like. the com- '5- bination with a case including two interfitting fianged case-members, one of which is provided in its fiange with spaced-apart openings: of a U-shaped strap-member having its cross-reach located within the saidC case and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly from the interior of the said case through the said spaced-apart openings therein.
7. In a strap watch and the like, the combination with a case including two interfitting flanged case-members, one of which is provided in its flange with spaced-apart openings; of a U-shaped strap-member having its cross-reach located Within the said case and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly from the interior of the said case through the said spaced-apart openings therein; and a strap-bar located outside of the said case and extending between the projecting side-arms of the said strap-yoke.
8. In a strap watch and the like, the combination with a case including two interfitting flanged case-members, one of which is provided in its flange with spaced-apart openings; of a one-piece vU-shaped strapmember having its cross-reach located within the said case and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly from the interior of the said case through the said spaced-apart openings therein.
9. In a strap watch and the like, the combination with a case including interfitting flanged case-members, one of which is provided in its flange with spaced-apart openings; of a one-piece U-shaped strap-member having its cross-reach located within the said case and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly from the interior of the said case through the said spaced-apart openings therein; and a strap-bar located outside of the said case and extending between the projecting side-arms of the said one-piece strap-yoke.
10. In a strap watch and the like, the combination with a case including a flanged outer case-member provided in its flange with spaced-apart openings, and a flanged inner case-member fitting within the said outer case-member; of a U-shaped strap-yoke having its cross-reach located within the flange of the said outer case-member and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly through the said spaced-apart openings therein.
11. In a strap watch and the like, the combination with a ease including a flanged outer case-member provided in its flange with spaced-apart openings, and a flanged inner case-member fitting within the said outer case-member; of a one-piece U-shaped strapyoke having its cross-reach located within the flange of the said outer case-member and having its spaced-apart side-arms extending outwardly through the said spaced-apart openings therein.
12. In a strap watch and the like, the combination with a case including a flanged outer case-member provided in its flange with spaced-apart openings, and a flanged inner its spaced-apart side-arms extending out- 'I Wardly/through the said spaced-apart openings therein the said inner case-member having its flange notched to clear the portion of the said strap-yoke located within the said A outer case-member.
