Description

Feb. 14, 1933. M. F. KILLORY 1,897,261
SHIRT FOR USE WITH CONCEALED SUSPENDERS Filed April 21, 1932 Patented Feb. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES MARTIN F. KILLORY, OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS SHIRT FOR USE WITH CONCEALED SUSPENDERS Application filed April 21,
The object of this invention is to provide a shirt adapted to be worn over suspenders concealed thereby, and having coupling members adapted to connect concealed suspender ends with trousers buttons, said members being confined on the shirt when the suspender ends and trousers are connected thereby, and separable from the shirt, to permit independent washing thereof when the suspender ends and trousers are not connected by the coupling members, washing of the latter being unnecessary.
Of the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front view showing a shirt embodying the invention and portions of trousers connected with concealed Suspender ends by the coupling members.
Figure 2 shows in perspective a portion of the inner side of the shirt, and one of the washable stop strips hereinafter described.
Figure 3 shows in perspective one of the coupling members separated from the shirt.
Figure 4 shows in perspective a portion of the inner side of the shirt and a coupling member conditioned to be separated from the shirt.
Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 4 and shows a portion of a suspenderend disconnected from the coupling member.
Figure 6 is a sectional view showing a suspender end engaged with the coupling memher. the latter being confined on the shirt and engaged with a trousers button.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the figures.
The shirt 12 is provided with a plurality of horizontally extending slits 13 in its waist portion, the number of slits being equal to the number of ends 14 of ordinary suspenders 15.
The shirt is provided on its inner side with a plurality of washable stop strips 16, one for each slit 13. said strips being of any suitable flexible fabric.
The strips 13 are attached at their ends by stitches 17 to the shirt adjacent the opposite ends of the slits, the strips being longer than the slits, and adapted to cooperate, as hereinafter described, with coupling members 1932. Serial No. 606,582.
which connect the suspender ends with trousers 18.
Said coupling members extend loosely through the slits 13 and each includes a single lower end tab 20 located outside the shirt and engageable with a button 19 on the trousers, and two upper end tabs 22 and 23, fixed to and diverging from the tab 20 and located within the shirt, said tabs extending across opposite sides of one 3 Each coupling member is preferably composed of two flexible oblong strips of any suitable material such as inelastic webbing united at their lower ends to form the lower tab 20, and diverging from the tab 20 to form the tabs 22 and 23. As shown by Figure 3, the lower ends of said strips may be united in part by stitches 28 and in part by stitches 26 reinforcing the lower end of the button hole 2-1., the strips being inseparable from each other below the mid length portion of the button hole 21, and separable from each other above said portion, so that the tab projects suiilciently below the slit 13 to permit it to be conveniently grasped.
The tab 22 has a button 24: engageable with a suspender end 14, and the tab 23 has a but ton hole 25 engageable with said button to connect the free ends of said tabs with each other, so that the tabs 22 and 23 cooperate with the stop strip 16 in preventing separation of the coupling member from the shirt, said member being separable from the shirt by disconnecting the upper tabs from each other, and then pulling the upper tabs through the slit 13.
The upper tabs are elongated to permit limited up and down movement of the stop strips 16 and the shirt portions attached thereto, on the coupling members.
It will now be seen that the shirt may be conditioned by the removal of the coupling members to permit its convenient washing, and rendered operative to conceal the suspenders by connecting the coupling members as described.
I claim: 7
A shirt provided with horizontally extendin slits in its waist portion, horizontally eX- tending washable stop strips attached at of the stop strips 16. 60 V their ends to the inner side of the shirt adj acent opposite ends of the slits, and detachable coupling members extending loosely through said slits, each member including two upper tabs located within the shirt and extending across opposite sides of a strip, and a single lower tab located outside the shirt, the upper tabs having means whereby they may be engaged with a Suspender end, and with each other, the lowertab being'engageable with trousers, the arrangement being such that when the upper tabs are connected with each other, the coupling member is confined on the shirt by the stop strip, and when the upper tabs are disconnected, the coupling member is separable from the shirt to permit independent washing of the shirt, the upper c tabs being elongated to permit independent vertical movements of the stop strips and the shirt portions to which they are attached.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
V MARTIN F. KILLORY.
