This invention relates to a detergent, and
more particularly to a liquid preparation for removing lacquer, japan, tar, pitch, grease and like substances.
An object of the invention is to provide an eflicient preparation for removing substances of the character above indicated, which will not injure the skin or other material to be cleaned.
One embodiment of the inventioncomprises a mixture of sperm oil with a Volatile organic solvent such as naphtha, the preparation being applied to the hands or other objccts to be washed in the usual manner.
The invention will be more fully understood from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof:
The solvent forming a constituent of this preparation may be a liquid hydrocarbon such as naphtha. a halogen derivative of a hydrocarbon such as ethylene dichloride, a monohydric alcohol such as methanol, an oxidation product of a monohydric alcohol such as acetone, a polyhydric alcohol such as glycol, or a benzene derivative such as toluol or xylol. To this is added sperm oil, the two ingredients being mixed in about equal proportions, although these proportions may be varied in accordance With the substances which it is desired to dissolve. The sperm oil itself is an excellent solvent, and the mixture of sperm oil with any of the volatile organic substances above indicated will readily dissolve obdurate substances such as lacquer, pitch, and the other substances above enumerated. The solution which this preparation forms With such substances is readily emulsified with soap and removed.
The preparation is used in the usual manner, and will be found to be free from the harmful action on the skin which naphtha and similar solvents have when used alone, since the sperm oil restores the oil to the skin and thus counteracts the tendency of the vol- .Application filed January 8, 1930.
