Description

COMBINATION WINDOW, DOOR JAMB, AND BUCK ANCHOR Filed June 30. 1951 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Inventor) J19]. By I v .2
Patented Apr. 19, 1 932 UNETIEE DELI'IIA E. STEPHENS, F FORT STOCKTON, TEXAS COMBINATION WINDOW, DOOR JAMB AND BUCK ANCHOR Application filed June 30,
The present invention relates to a combination window and door jamb and buck anchor to be used in the construction of brick buildings and has for its prime object to provide a device of this nature which may be used as a wall tie for brick veneer buildings or as a door and window jamb anchor or buck anchor in the construction of buildings.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
WVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel 3 features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device attached to a j amb.
Figure 2 is a plan view of one part of the device.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device, and
Figure at is a horizontal section taken substantially on the line &4: of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the letter A denotes one part of the device and the letter B the other part of the device. The letter A comprises an elongated plate 5 with a longitudinally extending slot or opening 6. At the ends of the plate 5 merges into right angular extensions 7 which in turn merge into right angularly outwardly disposed ears 8 which may be fastened to a jamb 9 or the like by screws 10 or the like. i The plate 5 is provided with strengthening means 11, one to each side of the slot 6.
5 Part B comprises an elongated plate tapering in width from one end to the other. Adjacent the narrow end of the tapering plate 12 there is provided a pair of notches 14 projecting inwardly from the side edges. Ad-
jacent the wider end of the plate 12 there are 1921. Serial No. 547,958.
upwardly inclined lips or projections 15 struck from the plate and disposed diagonal with respect thereto. When the part B is engaged with the part A as shown in Figure 1 these projections 15 incline upwardly and inwardly toward the part A. I
From a consideration of the illustrations given in the drawings and the above detailed description, it will be seen that the advantages gained by the anchor are as follows: It provides an anchorage of great efiiciency in any direction, the jamb or buck cannot move in any direction thereby making it rigid. To appreciate this advantage it will be noted that the part A is fastened to the jamb or buck or other like element and the part B is taken and inserted in the slot so that the notches receive the side edges of the slot and fits flat on the masonry work as is illustrated to ad vantage in Figure 3. The mason then continues on top of the part B and the projections 15 make a bond in the mortar joint that will not slip thereby providing the efficient anchorage. A is that the same may frame or buck is set thereby making it more easy to get to and when the frame or buck is set plumb there is no need to hammer and knock on same to cause it to be injured or to get out of plumb. Then part B is ready for the mason and can be readily and easily inserted in the part. All the mason has to do is to insert the part B in edgewise in the slot 6 and then turn it to engage the notches with the sides of the slot. This eliminates all the time of working around the anchor as is the common practice.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
Another advantage of the part be put on before the or wall with the screws or nails It Will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sac rificir'lg any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
Means for attaching a member to a brick Wall comprising an elongated fiat plate hav ing its ends offset and fastened to the member to space the mag or part of the plate from the member, said plate having a longitudinally extending slot therein, a tapered anchor plate having notches in its side edges adjacent the small end thereof for receiving the side Walls of the slot, the anchor plate being embedded in the Wall, and upstanding tongues struck from the anchor plate adjacent its Wide end.
In testimony whereof I a'flix my signature.
DELMA E. STEPHENS.
