This invention relates to a compact in which refills can be readily removed when necessary and quickly installed as replacements without pressing or handling the top surface of the refills and thus crumbling and waste is eliminated.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a compact of neat appearance and which includes a frame into which the refill can be placed from the bottom or back and the frame then snapped into place in the case.

Furthermore, the frame carries a spring which holds the refill in the frame, holds the frame in the case, supports the catch or hook for the lid of the case and provides a finger piece by which the lid can be released.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vanity case or compact of my improved construction. Figure 2 is a perspective view of the frame removed from the case and turned over. Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the case and its contents.

The device comprises the case 10 which has the side walls 11 and it has a lid 12 which is generally flanged as at 13. The lid is hinged at 14: to the body of the case.

The frame 15 has the opening or openings 16 which give access to the refills 17 as the refills are inserted into the frame from underneath. The frame has a back flange 18 and a front flange which is in the form of a spring 19. The spring 19 engages a refill and holds it firmly against the opposite flange 18. The spring 19, in addition rests against the front wall 20 of the case and holds the frame in the case. I illustrate a holder for two refills, one parallel with the other. The two inward bends of the spring 19 engage the refills and the central portion 21 engages the front wall of the case.

The spring also has the catch 22 which projects to engage the recessed part 23 of the lid 12. The finger piece 24 is secured to the spring flange and thus can be used to release the hook or catch 22. The finger piece 24: projects through the opening 25 in the wall 20. The lip 26 on the back edge of the frame allows the frame to be easily raised at the back from its place in the case and then moved rearwardly to pull the finger piece 24 out of the hole 25.

The frame is replaced in the case by passing the finger piece into the hole 25 and then pushing down on the back end of the frame which forces the frame into place.

This form of compact is easily refilled and presents a neat and smooth appearance. The spring 19 holds the refill in place and allows the easy insertion of a refill into the frame from underneath.

I claim A frame with a downwardly extending marginal flange bent at the front to form a bow-shaped spring, and projecting outwardly at the centre at which point a finger piece and hook are secured, in combination, with a vanity case having a lid, the spring engaging the front wall of the case, the lin ger piece projecting through said wall and the catch 70 engaging the lid when the lid is shut.
