ROBERT HERMANGE, OE SCHUYLERVILLE, NEW YORK.
I IMPROVEMENT IN NAIL-BOXES.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No.'183,394, dated October 17, 1876; application tiled August 28, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, ROBERT HERMANGE, of Schuylerville, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Nail-Buckets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a side view of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a similar View, showing the bucket on an incline.
This invention consists in a device for holding and supporting a bucket of peculiar construction, for containing nails and other like articles, so that the bucket can be readily handled during the operation of retailing the nails, as will be hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claims.
The bucket, as shown at A, may be composed ot' any suitable` material, although I prefer it of sheet metal; and is constructed larger at the top, with flat sides a and daring or slanting ends b, to more readily facilitate the nails or other like articles being taken out.
The bucket A is provided with a suitable handle, c, at each side, at or near the top, and also with a pivot, d, for suspending it upon a wooden frame, B, said frame being composed of cross-pieces e, braced by cross-bars f, which also form stops to prevent the bucket from being tipped too far over upon either side.
To one of said vbars is hinged a slat, g, to-
admit of its being turned either down or up against the cross-pieces of the frame B, for the purpose of allowing the bucket to be adjusted to a suitable incline according to the amount of nails contained therein. The bucket, to be filled, is taken out of the frame and placed upon the iioor, and the contents ot' a keg of nails are turned therein, after which the bucket is replaced within the frame, the slat g being turned up so that the bottom ot' the bucket will rest thereon.
When the bucket contains a full keg, or one hundred pounds of nails, and when the quantity becomes reduced, the hinged slat is turned down, giving the bucket more incline, the nails being taken out by a hook, nail-claw, or other suitable device, and placed into the hopper of the scales.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bucket A for containing nails' or 'other like articles, having flat side a, iaring ends b, and pivots d, in combination with a suitable frame or support, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. f'
2. The frame or support B, consisting oi' cross-pieces e and cross-bars f, and hinged slat in combination with the bucket A, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimonythat I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence ot' two witnesses.
ROBERT HERMANOE.
