Description

Aug- 4 1931 R. HElMRoTH 1:815904 BUTTER HANDLING DEVICE ,Filed Aug. 8, 1928 INVENTQR Wr W ma ATToRNEY` Patented Aug. 4, 1931 RANDOLPH HEIMROTI-I, OF MAPLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY BUTTER HANDLING DEVICE Application led August 8, 1928.
rlhis invention relates to improvements in sanitary devices for handling butter patties and other similar substances.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which will permit of the rapid handling of cakes or patties of butter or like substances Without coming in contact with the hands of the person using it.
Further objects of my invention are extreme simplicity and economy in manufacture.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention Will noW be particularly described and then pointed out by the claim following.l
ln the accompanying drawings Which form part of this application for Letters Patent and Whereon corresponding reference numerals and letters refer to like parts in the several illust-rations.
Fig. l is a side elevation of the device as it is inserted into a cake of butter; Fig. 2 is an end view thereof; Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. l When Withdrawn from the loutter; and Fig. 4 is a crosssection on the line 4-4 of Fig. l.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, A represents the device as a Whole. It is preferably of skeleton form and made from a continuous piece of resilient metal, preferably circular in cross-section. It is comprised of the tivo straight parallel rods or arms l and 2, arm l being longer than arm 2, which are connected a't their upper ends by a laterally extending spring bow portion forming a handle 3. At the lovver end of arm l is iiXed a ring or eye 4 Which acts as a sheath or ejector. Above ring 4 and also connected to rod l 49 there is also fixed a ring 5, which acts as a guide for rod 2, Which latter normally cxtends through and below ring 4 sufficiently far to be readily inserted in a cake of butter7 as at 7. The lower end of rod 2 may be flattened or bent into any desired form,
as at 6.
The laterally extending spring bow portion 3 is so formed that in its normal position, that is, With its spring expanded, the
50 lower end of arm 2 extends through ejector Serial No. 298,179.
4 in the position shown in Fig. l, in which position it is most conveniently inserted into a cake of butter, and is disengaged therefrom When the operator compresses the handle or bow portion 3, as shown in Fig. 3, thereby drawing up rod 2 through ejector 4.
For sanitary reasons, the guide member 5 is used instead of a deeper ejectoracting as guide and ejector, as it is believed the latter 'would collect butter and be ditlicult to clean.
Having described my invention, what I claim is z- A butter-pick comprising a single piece of metal bent upon itself to form two parallel rods connected at their upper ends by a spring boiv forming a handle, one of said rods being adapted to hold a piece of butter at its lower end, the other rod being provided with means to ejectI the butter from the first ro-d.
