Description
Feb. 11, 1930. w. c. RASTETTER FOLDING TABLE ATTACHMENT Filed May 27. 1927 Patented Feb. 11, 193!) PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM G. BASTETTER, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA FOLDING-TABLE ATTACHMENT Application filed May 27,
This invention relates to improvements in folding table attachments, and the object thereof is to provide in supported relation with a foldin leg of the table, a tray or platform upon w ich may be placed a servlce for the convenience of those sitting atthe table,
and which tray may be folded against the leg of the table when not required for use, and
which will be moved with the leg upon which it is supported into folded relation with the table top. 1
This object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanylng drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing a portion of a folding table with the tray applied in connection therewith, parts being broken away and in section; and
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.
The invention consists of a platform or pan 1 fixed upon a swinging bracket 2, the bracket having spaced arms 3 that are secured respectively by screws or pivots 4 to the corresponding sides of the leg 5 of a folding table 6. The particular construction of the folding table is immaterial to the invention, and the table structure illustrated is shown as an example of that type of folding table suited for use of the invention. The leg 5 is bifurcated in its upper portion, its branches 77' being secured upon a pivot 8 in a bracket 9 that is fixed in connection with the table frame 10. The outer end of the bracket 2 has spaced ears 11 between which is pivoted one end of a brace bar 12. The other end of the brace bar extends through a pivotal guard 13 in which it has sliding movement, the guard being supported upon a pin 14 that is positioned transversely in the branches 7-7 of the table leg, the guard being located on the pin between said branches. The brace 12 has made therein adjacent the end thereof opposite its hinged end, a notch 15, and has also formed thereon between said notch and its end, adj acent thereto, a lug 16.
The notch 15 is so disposed as to receive the 1927. Serial No. 194,692.
In utilizing the invention, whilethe table is unfolded and in position for use, the pan is raised to a horizontal position so that the brace 12 has latched connection on the pin 14, whereby the pan is sustained in a position at the side of the table suitably for the reception of a service or such other articles as may be desire-d. When the pan is not required for use, by unlatching the brace 12 from the pin 14 the pan may be swung downwardly into a plane parallel with the front of the leg and adjacent thereto, which operation causes the brace to slide in its guard and assume folded 30 position between the branches of the leg. While the pan is thus held in folded relation with the table leg, the leg, together with the pan are folded into the frame 10 of the table.
WVhat I claim is 1. In combination with a table top having a frame and a bifurcated folding leg therefor, a bracket pivoted to said leg and having foldin relation therewith; a member fixed on sai bracket to be supported thereby and fold therewith; a pin extending transversely in connection with the leg; a guard pivotally supported onthe pin between the branches of the leg; and a brace, one end of which has a pivotal connection with the bracket, which connection is so located as to drop below said pin when the bracket is folded and the opposite end of which brace has sliding movement in said guard and latched relation with said pin, there being a lug on said brace engageable with said pin to prevent its removal from the guard.
2. In combination with a tabletop having a frame and a bifurcated folding leg therefor, a platform having hinged relation with said leg; a pin in connection with said leg extending transversely relative thereto; a guard pivotallfi supforted on said pin between the branc es 0 the leg; and a brace having at one end hinged connection with said platform, its opposite end having sliding relation in said guard and latch relation with said pin, said hinge connection being located so as to drop below said pin when said platform is folded.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
WILLIAM C. RASTETTER.
