Description

1929. E. P. WALKER 1,725,116
SHIPPING DRESS PROTECTOR Filed Jan. 15, 1928 I WALKfR.
Patented Aug. 20, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SHIPPING DRESS PROTECTOR.
Application filed January 13, 1928. Serial No. 246,628.
My invention relates to improvements in shipping dress protectors, and the object of the invention is to devise simple means whereby a dress or other similar article may be held firmly in place within a container during shipment so that it will not be wrinkled, creased, rubbed or otherwise spoiled and so that it will retain its original appearance as when shipped, and it consists essentially of the arrangement and construetion of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view through a con- I tainer showing my garment protector therein and a dress or other similar article applied.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective detail of my protector.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 indicates a container body and 2 the cover thereof.
My protector which is placed within the container comprises a strip 3 of card or any other suitable material and a pair of strips of card 4 and 5 which are folded over on their longitudinal medial line into arched form and provided with slots 6 and 7 through which the strip 3 is slipped.
It will be seen that when the arched strips 4 and 5 are bent or forced downward against the upper face of the strip 3 that the slots 6 and 7 will have a biting grip upon the strip 3 holding them in place, and yet will have a resilient upward pressure against the goods, such as an article of dress as indicated at 8 in Figure 1, forcing the ends against the cover exerting a slight resilient pressure thereon so as to hold such article from moving out of its original position no matter how the container is roughly handled during shipment or any other time.
From this description it will be seen that I have devised very simple means whereby any article of clothing particularly those which are made of flimsy material, such as dresses will be held firmly in place in a container during shipment so that there will be no danger of it being wrinkled or crushed or otherwise deranged during shipment.
WVhat I claim as my invention is 1. A shipping dress protector comprising a straight strip of stiff material and transverse strips bent on their longitudinal centre into arched form and having aligned slots in the opposing portion of the arches through which the straight strip is slipped.
2. A shipping dress protector, comprising a spacing member in the form of a strip and resilient members adjustable longitudinally of the strip, and means for retaining the resilient members in the position to which they are adjusted.
