This invention relates generally to containers, and has more particular reference to a combination cigarette container and ash receptacle.

The invention has for an object the provision of an article of the class mentioned which is of simple, but durable construction, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

A box is provided with partitions to form a cigarette container and ash receptacle. A cover is hingedly connected to the top of the box, and a side of the box is formed with an aperture communicating with the cigarette container so that a cigarette package inserted in the cigarette container may be moved. The top edge of the box may be formed with indentations to support a cigarette. One of the partitions may be provided with means for clamping a cigarette package in the container, against displacement.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invent-ion are more particularly set forth.

The reference numeral 10 indicates generally a box provided with transverse partitions 11, forming a cigarette package container chamber 12, and ash receptacles 18. The bottom of the box 10 is formed with an aperture 14: communicating with the charm ber 12, so that a persons finger, or tool, may be inserted thru this aperture to push a Serial No. 230,212.

A cover 15 formed with a pressed out portion 16 to imitate a whiskey flask cover, is hingedly connected to the top of the box. The sides of the box and the cover have indentations 17 to act as a support for cigarettes. The cover 15 has a. hook 18 engageable with a latch 19 secured to the box.

Fig. a discloses a modified form of the invention in which the" box 10 and cover 15 are of curved horizontal section so as to fit snugly against the body of a person carrying the device in a clothing pocket.

Fig. 5 discloses another modified form in which the box 10 has longitudinal partitions 11 to form a cigarette package chamber 12, and ash receptacles 18*.

Fig. 6 discloses a still further modification in which a box 20 has a top opening 21, and a side opening 22. A partition 11" divides the box into a cigarette package chamber 23 and an ash chamber 2%. A cigarette package may be inserted thru opening 22 into compartment 23. If desired the cigarette package may be removed by pushing same from hole 14.

One of the partitions forming the cigarette chamber may be provided with means for clamping a cigarette package against displacement. A window 25 is formed in the partition. A plate 26 is pivoted intermediate of its ends in the window, the bottom edge of the plate being formed with a projecting sharp edge 27, and the top edge with a groove 28. A spring 29 is mounted coaxially with the pivot point of the plate, and acts against the partition and plate, to urge the bottom sharp edge 27 against a cigarette package in the cigarette chamber. The partition has a recess 30 formed in one edge, and a bolt 31 is slidably arranged in the recess so as to be movable to engage or disengage the groove 28 in the plate. lVhen the bolt engages the groove the plate is locked in neutral position. The bolt may be slid sideways so that the plate is free, and then the spring 29 moves the plate so that edge 27, engages against a cigarette package which may be in the cigarette chamber, The top of the plate may be manually pressed in to move the bottom end free of the cigarette package.

It is thought that the operation of the device will be clear from the above description. A cigarette package may be stored in the cigarette chamber, be removed and smoked, the ashes thereof being deposited in the ash receptacles. The indentations 17 may be used to form a rest for a lighted cigarette.

It is to be understood that the cigarette package in the cigarette package chamber may be replaced by a medicine flask or the like.

- l/Vhiie I have above described the preferred formed, construction and arrangements of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is, nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modifi cation therein, and I therefore reserve the privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 2- 1. In a device of the class described a box provided with partitions forming a cigarette package chamber and ash receptacle, a cover movably connected on the top of the box,'the box and cover being formed with indentations for serving as a support for individual cigarettes with the cover in closed position. 7
