UNITED STA TESA PATENT OFFICE.'
Nom laminoir-ro, or osnxosn, WISCONSIN."
scHooLnoUsE nox- Application led lax-ch 28,1927.: Serial No. 179,005.
This invention relates to improvements in school house boxes, and`more particularly to a set-up or solid box which can be arranged box may be readily reconstructed to form as a toy, a school house. l .f
A further object of the invention is to provide a set-up box having cut out and scored portions for folding and assembling to form an attractive school house model.
A further object of the invention is to Y provide a box of the character described which is of very simple construction, is
strong and durable, is lnexpensive to manufact-ure. and is well adapted for the purposes described.
lVitli the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved school house box and its parts and combinations as and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the box when reconstructed to form a school house;
Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a side view; *i*
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the box in its normal condition as used for a container;
Fig. 5 is a bottom view thereof; and
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings it will `appear that the numeral 8 indicates a tive sided box of the set-up or solid type having an open top whichY is normally closed by a flanged, removable cover 9.
The front end of the box is formed with a pair of spaced, horizontal slots 10 and 11 and between the slots there is a square formed by slots'and scored or fold lines, permitting the stock there-enclosed and distinctively printed, to be folded outwardly, forming a pair of doors 12. Adjacent said doors, there are delineations to represent windows 13.
The rear end of the box is provided with a pair of whitened and lined window -representations 14 and a door representation 15. The sides of the box are alike and are also 40, the belfry rear formed with a plurality of window representations 16, as shown 1n Fig. 3.l
The top of the cover 9 of the box, at the front and medialportions thereof, is formed with cuts 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25, and fold lines 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32, and Vthe ent-ire portion defined 'by said cuts and fold lines when pushed outwardly from the cover stock and folded forms a belfrey 33.
The constituent portions of the belfry, sepa- V rated by the various cuts and fold lines, mayv bedesignated4 the attic flange 34 having a window representation 35 on its surface, the belfry front 36 integral therewith and havint,r a window and bell representation, belfry side flanges 37 and 38 having window and bell representations 39, the belfry top fiange 41 also having a window and bell representation 42, and three Vfoldably connected belfry roof sections 43, 44 andI 45. l ,f
. The rear portion of the cover is formed with a cut 46, as acontinuation of the cuts 19 and 21, and also cuts 47, 48, 49, 50, 51 and `52 and the stock defined Yby said cuts is adapted to be 4'pushed outwardly vertically, forming a rear attic flange 53 having a window representation 54 thereon and a chimney 55 integral therewith. The chimney 55 is formed by folding the portions 56, 57, 58 and 59 on scored lines 60, 61, 62 and 63 into a square formation.
The bottom of the box is provided with Cuts 64, 65, 66, 67, 66, 69, 7o, 71, 72, 73 and 74 whereby a removable porch or stooppiece is provided and the rear edge of said piece 75 is adapted for insertion in the slot 10 in the front of the box and the flanges 76, 77, and 78 can be folded downwardly on. the scored lines 79, 80 and 81. forming. when in position, a porch at the front of the box, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The other portion separated from the bottom of the box by said cuts comprises an inner wall member 82 adapted to fold up vertically on the scored line 83 and having representations 84 thereon visible throughv the doors 12 when the same are open. to indicate a cloak room. A porch roof flange 85 is attached to said inner wall member 82 and the same may be folded horizontally on al fold line 86 and inserted outwardly through the upper slot 11 in the front of the box, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
` Disposed within the .box is a 'roof member Ill conveniently folded transversely several lll member.
times, as shown in Fig. 6. When removed from the box said roof member is adapted to be folded longitudinally angularly and inserted over the cover of the box with the beltry and chimney extending through openings 88 and 89 provided therefor in said roof When the roof member is so posi-r tioned, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and the chimney and belfry are engaged thereby, the (langes of said portions in their folded positions will be held as folded.
The box in its original or holding condition is provided with an inner bottom lining 90 and an inner top lining 91, both of which are preferably of paper and are pasted in place to hold the top and bottom portions of the box against displacement. Said linings may contain printed directions relative to the assembly or remodeling of the box and, of course, may be readilytorn od when the cut portions are to be displaced.
As previously mentioned, the invention contemplates the provision of` a set-up box having a two-fold use. ln its original sta-te, in the condition shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6,
' it may be used for holding commodities and then the purchaser of the box and commodity therein may afterwards re-assemble the box into a toy or novelty for aA child in the form of a school house. The first steps in Ithe conversion will be to remove the roof member d? and to tear olf the linings 90 and 91 and to fold the doors 12 outwardly. Then the porch member is removed from the bottom and attached to the front of the' box and the inner wall 82 is folded upwardly and the porch roof 85 is rejected through the slot 11. Next, the beliiry is pushed outwardly from the cover and folded, as is the chimney. Lastly, the roof is put into place and the box, as thus converted, appears as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. The exterior of the box is lined and colored to represent preferably red frame or brick work and the -exterior surfaces of the portions which form the roof, the belfry roof and the porch room are lined and colored to represent shingles. From the foregoing description it will be seen that the improved school house box is of simple and novel construction, and is well adapted for the purposes described.
